ROKU XD

Fri Feb 04, 2011 4:25 pm

I just recently purchased an ROKU XD device with an HDMI cable. My HD TV is an Hitachi rear projection TV and it doesn't have an HDMI female input. IT does have a DVI HD TV input. I ordered a Female HDMI to a Male DVI HD TV adapter. When I try to view AMAZON Movies 2 Minutes I receive a message on my TV that it is unable to play the movie in HD. Is this message generated by the ROKU Box or is it generated by AMAZON? The picture appears to be HD, but I don't want to watch an entire movie with that caption on the screen. Is there a fix other than trashing my Hitachi TV and purchasing a new one that has an HDMI input? :|

That message is from Amazon.. if you have 7mb/s HD shouldn't be a problem, BUT is your Roku set to display HD? That and does your tv support 720p or 1080p? The Roku does not support 1080i

I set the TV for 720P and the Roku for 720P. My tv only does 1080I. I still get the same message. I can watch March of the Penguins on Netflix and I don't get the message. I think the problem is the Amazon interface.

It's my understanding that the message only appears when you watch a preview in HD on Amazon.

Since your tv likely doesn't support 720p, you'll be watching in 480p and wouldn't have any reason to purchase or rent HD titles anyway.

You might as well set your roku at 16x9 anamorphic because if your tv does not support 720p you're not going to be getting HD at all. As I stated earlier, its not a "problem" with amazon... The 2min previews are HD streams, if and when you can't view the HD screen it displays so. This is a function of amazon.
