Which is it?

Wed Aug 24, 2005 3:17 pm

Ok..suddenly I have an issue...but not what you may think. Just heard Queen's 'Rock You', and it dawned on me for the first time(yes, I'm THAT dense!) that Roku could be pronounced 'Rock You'. Within milliseconds, I pondered the source for the name-what IS a Roku? Is it row-ku, Rock You? Satisfy my curiousity on the origins of this name, or I'll shall taunt you a second time-uh. :)

Take a look at: http://www.rokulabs.com/about/

Down near the bottom.....

" 8<snip>8 Roku—which means “six” in Japanese—is the sixth company built around Anthony’s inventions.... 8<snip>8 "

Found the pronunciation in a few places, it's "roh-kuw".

well personally I always think of it as like rock-you but without the y sound, so rock-ou.

not bothered about the real one, once i have it in my head as something for so long, its hard to change it :)

Heard the Roku advert on Club977 this morning...incessant mispronounciation!!! He kept saying Row-Ku this, Row-Ku that....

Maybe they'd sell a tad better if it was pronounced RockYou!?! j/k

Anyway, the ad said AAC/AIFF support..is that true? (don't have any of these files to find out). I see very little mentioned about these formats anywhere on this board. Nice ad, btw...if I didn't already have two 'ovem...

Interesting... I've always pronounced it as "Rock You"

Since my first knowledge of the company came with the SoundBridge I just thought that the name would be pronounced Rock You.
