Sat Jul 09, 2005 5:39 pm

Ok, I'll make it official. Please support native decoding of the Apple lossless format.

Thanks!

Another vote for Apple Lossless.

Also, AAC w/Fairplay DRM (aka iTunes Music Store format)

flac - I am transcoding from mt-daapd but native would be more bandwidth efficient

My vote is for FLAC as well, I find it difficult to understand why an opensource codec is still not supported be it at the Roku or server ends.

+1 for FLAC (all my CDs are already ripped in flac+cue)

WMA lossless

Native support for lossless WMA would be good. I am not using it now at all due to my setup, but I believe that I will in the future.

Full gapless playback on Lossy content

Sun Jul 10, 2005 8:15 am

The Soundbridge's MP3 playback codec should be improved to support totally gapless playback of LAME encoded MP3 files (which has delay/padding info in the file header - http://gabriel.mp3-tech.org/mp3infotag.html under "Encoder delays"). There shouldn't even be the smallest click/pop/dropout between tracks that blend together. Rio Karma supports this.

WMA VBR (& WMA) should also be gapless as the format supports it... but it doesn't consistently seem to be (unless it's transcoded, when >400Kbps.) Bug? WMA Lossless (WMAL) is gapless.

This will remove another "drawback" of SoundBridge over a traditional CD player environment.

I wholeheartly support the general "support gapless when possible" request. Having also a Rio Karma myself (using only FLAC, not mp3). Gapless is the only thing that only the Karma is the only one to do well (in the DAP world). Having the same on the Roku would be more than nice.

MusicMatch On Demand

Mon Jul 11, 2005 8:38 am

I don't understand all about file names and such. I play what my 1000 lets me play. I do know tho I would like to play my MusicMatch On Demand files that I have. Hope someday this will be possible.

"that I have" implies that you're downloaded the files to your computer. If so, they may be playably but you'll have to try it with Windows Media Connect. If the files are indeed "On Demand", then yes, you can't currently play them and I agree that it would be great if MusicMatch would provide some mechanism for us to do so.

It just has to be FLAC for me!

As above, I am using mt-daapd, and native conversion would be much simpler for people to set up, as well as more efficient.

I hope the opening of this thread means something will be done in this respect. Plenty of people have been asking for this for a long time now :(

Flac, Apple Lossless, and protected AAC from Apple (I know that last one is up to Apple of course, as I imagine Apple Lossless is as well).

MusicMatch On Demand

Tue Jul 12, 2005 8:08 am

Mike I have written MusicMatch and expressed my unhappiness with not being able to steam my on demand when you can with Rhapsody. I informed them that Soundbridge users are makeing the change and that Roku said it was something that could be worked out if they would work with Roku. If I get a response from them I will post here. Thanks for all the hard work.
