Hi,

I think that the flyout is too high. I'm not sure, but I think that is has to show only 4 lines of text maximum, either like this (if playing music from a local server):

1. Songtitle
2. Artist
3. Album
4. The Name of the Soundbridge

or like this (if playing music from internet radio):

1. Now Playing Information provided by the radio statin (normally like this: Artist - Song)
2. Name of the Radio Station
3. Some Internet Radio station show their URL or something else here, e.g. www.977music.com
4. Name of the Soundbridge

So I think the flyout should be only about 230*60. Please correct me if my wrong there.

Other suggestions:
- like williMeier said, the display should automaticly refresh the information
- maybe if the gadget is moved from the sidebar to the desktop it could become bigger and show information from the flyout in its normal shape (like the weather gadget, it becomes bigger and shows more information)
- maybe the folder structure could be changed to having a "en-US" folder, maybe later it could be translated for offering localized versions

@mcfh: I worked on the gadget a little bit. How can I sent it to you?

Trouble installing Soundbridge controller on Vista 32

Tue Jun 26, 2007 10:22 pm

Tried emailing to tagsoft.co.uk account but msg got rejected with a mailbox quota count exceeded! Hope youre away on holiday or something fun!

Msg was:

I wanted to check out your gadget and seems the gadget depends on the
Roku Soundbridge controller. I grabbed the msi for it and installed on
Vista 32 with UAC off.

Installer doesnt want to register a few dlls starting with
MedRedl.dll, RokuSB.dll

When trying to register these manually I get: Make sure binary is
stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the
binary or dependant dlls...The application has failed to start because
its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see app event log
for details.

App event log says :

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program
Files\RokuNSE\Roku.exe". Dependent Assembly
Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762"
could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Finally, the installer complains that it cant start the Roku service.
App event log says similar about VC8.crt when trying to start the
service manually.

A quick google for this evt log info suggests that this may be a VC8
problem with distributing dlls compiled with debug to systems without
VC8.

I've got Visual Studio 2005 on my xp lappie but not on this vista
machine. Might install it there to see if I can around this. Would like to
check out your work....sounds like good stuff.

@mjmeyer - thanks for the comment on the tagsoft a/c - it gets drowned in spam  It sounds like the Visual Studio libraries have not registered correctly - I have had some users complain about this (have a look at the ideas in my main thread specifically around dependency checking) and can you feed back to me via a PM.

@slim and willi - Thanks for the feedback - I am working on a new release and will incorporate your ideas as soon as practical.

Have just posted a new build:
  • Support for playlists, presets
  • Support for Favourites via Radio Roku.
  • Current playing track (and click on it for more data)
  • Basic controls

I have deliberately not supported building playlists yet - would be interested in views on the most efficient UI for that.

I also think that some of the state transitions may not work as expected - if there are any you find let me know.

hi,

first of all, the new version looks cool and the presets feature is very useful. Unfortunatly, it doesn't work for me anymore. The first days it worked fine, but everytime I start it now I get an error:

line: 710
RCP Error: The Server has disconnected.

I already tried to restart my computer but it didn't help. The older version of the gadget works and automaticly updates the information.

slimshady - can you confirm what you mean by 'Start' do you mean add a new instance of the gadget to the Sidebar or start your computer?
If the latter can you try readding the gadget from the gallery.
Thanks

Hi,

I meant to add a new instance of the gadget. Anyway, it works again. I closed the sidebar, restarted the computer and started the sidebar. Then it worked. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

i justed wanted to give you some feedback for further improvements:

first of all, it would be cool to change the volume from the sidebar.

2. When I connect a server (not internet radio), it takes very long to load all the songs. My music libraby is not that big, but it still takes several minutes to load, much longer than the soundbridge needs. Maybe you could add an option to browse by artist, album and so on, this might be a bit faster.

Tried out the Gadget and get the following errors on installation:

Error 1904. Module G:\Other Applications\RokuShell\MedRed.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147019895

Error 1904. Module G:\Other Applications\RokuShell\RokuSB.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147019895

If I ignore each setup continues, but the is unable to start the service and has to be cancelled.

Did you install the Roku Data Service successfully - this is symptomatic of Vista not installing the ATL runtimes correctly.

No, sorry. I came to this thread via a search rather than following this forum.

What is the Roku Data Service and where can I obtain the installation file for it?

Have just posted a new gadget build:
  • Fixed a few error reporting bugs
  • Notifies upgrades of firmware, the gadget and the Roku Data Service

Known limitations:
  • Does not support servers which require a password
  • The data server seems to lose the Soundbridge after a reboot and not get it back.
