Thundery showers here tonight so it crashed? Hold on... the last 6 small images are missing from pbm :P

It is no problem to show the date as well. Just edit the t4roku.pl file at the line 543 to show more:
 $display->msg(text => substr(localtime(time), 11, 5), duration=>0, font => 1, x=>20, y=>0, keygrab=>0);

Either you do it by yourself, or give me some time to realize it in the next release.

Thanks gouldinio: I will fix the latest ZIP file and put the missing files into it.

BTW: the latest download at my homepage includes "play similar artist feature" - just a working example... Enjoy after pressing the brightness button in the remote control. Details are on my homepage: http://billiatjapan.netfirms.com/Tools4Roku/

Hi Goemon,

is your script still under development?

If so, I may have an idea concerning the problem with the non-responding SB while your script is running.

I installed t4roku on my Windows PC using Perl 5.10.0 and on my NAS (Synology Disk Station 207) using Perl 5.8.8 with exactly the same t4local. It worked slow but smoothly on the Windows PC. On the Linux-based NAS it worked a little faster, but every button on the remote only caused a $modus++ while in stand-by.

May be, there's a problem with your script under Perl 5.8.8?

Hello Gloern,

The script definately needs improvement in some points, so dev is ongoing. But my time is limited and so the recent progress is very slow.
I appreciate your comment and will have a look in this direction. Thanks.

I think the steps are described in this thread. In short it is:

Hi,

I printed the recognized commands in the perl script.

When running on the Linux-NAS, the results were like:

CK_POW
CK_PO
CK

On the Windows PC it was

CK_POWER
CK_POWER
CK_POWER

It seems that my Linux-NAS isn't receiving the entire keypress from the SB what leads to the strange behaviour. I dont have any idea what to do now because I have nearly no knowledge about Linux, Perl and SB-control.

Anybody else any ideas?

I can't get this t4roku script to work.

I have installed pearl, CPAN and setup t4local with my roku's IP and so on.

However, when I run pearl t4roku.pl nothing happens on my soundbringe more than a short blink in standby mode every 10 sec.

The script seams to work but nothing is displayed on my soundbridge.

I'am using the latest file t4roku080804.zip

The file is unpacked to /usr/local/bin/t4roku with 755 as userrights and root as owner and group because that is who I'am when I try the script.

What can be wrong and how do I fix it?

Re: Yahoo! Weather for the Soundbridge

Mon Jan 24, 2011 2:16 pm

Hi Guys,

I realise no one has posted on here for a while but, I'd really appreciat some help. I've installed tools4roku which i'm very pleased with as the sleep and alrm functions are great.

However the weather feed does not work no matter what I try. I don't know whether yahoo has changed it's format recently?Has anyone else has a similar problem recently? does anyone still use this?

I'd love to get the weather working as apart from that it's a great tool. I'm afraid I'm not gifted in the coding world.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

Sad to say but the yahoo feed no longer works. Looks like the feed now requires a setup of a yahoo developer account plus the use of something called "oauth". So no more weather. Perhaps registering with wunderground (for free) and using WWW::Wunderground::API in t4roku would be the way to go.

I think this can be fixed.

I'm far from an expert in perl scripts.
However, by changing the url in file t4local.pl from:
http://xml.weather.yahoo.com/forecastrss?p=$locationid&u=$unitsid

to
https://query.yahooapis.com/v1/public/yql?q=select%20*%20from%20weather.forecast%20where%20woeid=1118370%20and%20u="c"&format=xml

I managed to get the script running again.
NOTE: Due to my poor skills, I hardcoded the woeid and temp format.
In this example, I used Tokyo

You can find your woeid at http://zourbuth.com/tools/woeid/

With a bit of luck, I think the original variables can be reused.
Then the url in file t4local.pl should be something like:
https://query.yahooapis.com/v1/public/yql?q=select * from weather.forecast where woeid=$locationid and u=$unitsid&format=xml

Do not forget to adjust the following line in t4local:
our $locationid = 1118370
This example is again for Tokyo

Thanks for the information, and it looks like that'll work. I have actually gone the wunderground route. I've signed up for a free api key and amended the script to get the information through their API and using the perl interface from https://github.com/nebulous/WWW-Wunderground-API. The Wunderground API gives lots of weather information, so you could basically display any weather info you want. For the free version I think you are limited to 10 calls per minute or 500 an hour, which shouldn't be a problem as the script caches the information and only gets an update every 15 minutes.

Since I only have the M1001 and am only interested in the weather portion, I've also stripped out most of the other functionality of the t4roku script and made it specific for the M1001. It now cycles through four displays:
1. present time with day, date and year
2. present time with current conditions
3. present time with forecast for today and tomorrow
4. present time with forecast for following two days.
I wanted the time to display at all times as it's the only "clock" that we have in the living room.

If anyone is interested in the script, I can post it somewhere.
