I want to have my M1001 display some text when it's in standby. Ideally the text would just echo the contents of a specified URL. The contents of the URL will change every 3-5 minutes, and in the best of all possible worlds the M1001 would update whenever the contents change...or just on a fixed schedule maybe once per minute or so.

I see various tools to display Yahoo weather and other stuff, this sounds similar to what I want but without the Yahoo-specific stuff.

What do I need in order to do this?

My COM objects should make this pretty easy - what OS are you using?

I'm using WinXP Pro. I've tried your tools, I can get info from the Soundbridge but can't send any text to it yet. I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong. I installed .NET and the XML parser as mentioned in the install instructions, but that didn't help. Tried using 2 different PC's without success. I've only tried the weather RSS feed so far (not tried making my own RSS feed yet which is what I really want to do).

Like I said, I'm probably just doing something dumb . If you've got any suggestions I'm all ears.

I'll try the telnet "scratch" command next just to make sure I can actually write to it.

If you do a custom install of my app you will see the documentation. Some programming will be required. But you can invoke it from any scripting language.

OK, I did the custom install and got the SDK. But still having problems. I open "Media Players" in Control Panel. Then I got the Soundbridge page and could see the device, but not send anything to the display. But now when I open "Media Players" nothing shows up, just the Windows Explorer window. When I close that, Windows Explorer crashes with a message "Windows Explorer has enountered a problem..."

Any more hints? I do have MSXML parser 6.0 SDK and .NET 2.0 Redistributable installed...

Re the crashing - not immediately sure. I need to know precisely when that happens.

Re the text. Now you have the app installed you will need to so some programming with my COM objects (the Roku Data Service) so with say VB script connect to the server, find your device, and start sketching....

I open up Control Panel.

I double-click on Media Servers.

Then a new Windows Explorer window pops up. Sometimes the Soundbridge shows up there, sometimes it doesn't.

If it doesn't, Windows Explorer hangs. I get a dialog box saying "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Here's the entry in Event Viewer (Application) from about the time Windows Explorer crashes:

But sometimes the Soundbridge shows up and everything seems to work, except for the Data Services. I can set up, for example, the Yahoo Weather RSS link, but it never seems to be sent to the Soundbridge.
