You can enable the built in media server and use the M1001 to pull music off your PC's hardrive.
If you are using WIndows XP SP2, then you can open Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11) and goto 'library' then 'media sharing' and you should be in bussiness. It works kind of like iTunes built in music server
Roku3 and Roku HD1000 [Rev B] on a Samsung HLP5674W DLP in the living room; a Roku2 and two Roku XS and a few SoundBridges.Win7; Kubuntu and XP via RT-N66U, E2000 and a switch or two. I own stock in Roku, it's just all in the form of hardware.Viva la Roku

I use On2Share, a UPnP media server, in conjunction with the WMP11 and my Roku M1001. It enables me to push -not to pull- music from my music archiv to the Soundbridge. In addition I use remote access from a laptop via WI-FI to access the WMP on my Desktop PC.
I enjoy to push my favorite music to the soundbridge which is connected to my HIFI equipment and in parallel to surf in the internet.
