Pinnacle or Roku

Thu Jan 24, 2008 9:39 am

I find the same "SoundBridge wifi internet radio" labelled as Pinnacle somewhere and as Roku elsewhere.

Appearance is the same but prices different: Roku at HK$2,345 while Pinnacle at HK$1,845.

Any difference in quality or warranty?

Anyone would enlighten me? Thanks.

The hardware is the same, but the software isnt.
Pinnacle labeld devices will only talk to Firefly Media Server, while RoKu labeled devices will talk to iTunes as well.

Just to add to fizze's post, the pinnacle will talk to most UPnP servers as well, iTunes was never licensed to Pinnacle, so Firefly was commissioned as a replacement DAAP server.
Then as it was, then again it will be

if its the m1001 model or above they're the same except for the itunes connectivity

now, it depends where you are hosting your music -- for ppl are NOT running itunes then get the pinnacle. i've got a roku branded and also a pinnacle branded item -- both are getting the music from a linux box running firefly.. both work exactly the same

I have 2 Soundbridge Radios

I bought the first direct from Roku in the states for about $499 over a year ago.

I bought a Pinnacle branded unit about 2 months ago for about £120 brand new on ebay.

That boots up identically to the Roku unit even displaying the Roku boot up screens etc.

I run both from Firefly on a NAS boxes, and both function identically too.

Never used itunes, the NAS boxes mean I never need a computer running to serve my music.
Soundbridge and Photobridge repairs offered.

Thank you all very much.

However I'm somewhat confused. My focus is on listening to Internet radio and playing my own music is a plus. How shall I make the choice:

(a) http://www.expansys.com.hk/d.aspx?i=126786

(b) http://www.expansys.com.hk/p.aspx?i=152407

With (b) 20% cheaper than (a), shall I choose (b)?

Your further help is highly appreciated as I'm considering placing an order now.

From the internet radio perspective they are the same. So the trade off is price vs brand. Personally I would go for the cheaper one.
