Why do SBRadios die?

Sun Jan 27, 2008 5:48 am

The SBRadio has the bad habit of consuming much power while in standby!

So you can either ignore that and leave the radio plugged in all the time. Or you can pull out the plug each time the radio isn't used.

Both of these 2 behaviours could be a reason for the device being damaged that young!

So could the owners of the dead SBRadios please tell us:

A/
if they did pull out the plug more often than not ?

or

B/
if they had their device resting in standby most of the time ?

Maybe we thus can find out, which of the 2 behaviours might be better!

Mine was left powered up all the time.

On a table away from any heat.

lasted just under a year.

new capacitor in power supply fixed it. :)

I have no idea if this is relevant, but my company recently performed a visual inspection of all the caps on our desktop motherboards. According to IT, their was a bad batch of electrolytic caps from India that swelled over time. Dell was willing to provide credit if the motherboard caps were swollen.

In standby over night, with the clock showing, and in use probably 5 or 6 hours of the day on two or three days a week (when I'm working at home).

Lasted just under 2 months....

My SoundBridge Radio died earlier today :(.
Blank screen, no network connection, nothing. I assume it's the same power supply problem that so many other people have reported.

I've had the radio for just over 3 months. When not in active use, it has been in standby, and the power has only been off a few times.

My R1000 was on the kitchen table away from the heat, and was in standby 24 hours per day. It died after about a year and I don't know how to get it fixed.

Soundbridge Radio R1000 also dead...

Thu May 01, 2008 3:21 pm

After one year an 3 months my Radio went dead.

Have been placed on a stand alone cupboard in the kitchen all the time.

Always plugged in to the power network showing clock in stand-by.
The radio is usually ON as soon as anybody are at home in the evening. => approx 5 hours litening per day.
Have updated to a newer SW one or two times.

I really miss my Radio...

Mine died this weekend after 1 year and 7 months. Seems that Roku's idea of rewarding loyal early-adopting customers is to ask them to pay $199 for a repair, whereas more recent customers are given replacement radios, despite the fact that it is the same design flaw that causes the issue.

Well, mine is 2 years old this month ... Always been plugged in, never had an issue, never ran hot. Mine was a pre production run, so it may not be made of all the same internals.

RIP for My SoundBridge Radio

Sat May 31, 2008 8:44 pm

My SB Radio died this week, blank screen, I have been unable to revive it. It has always been plug in and in standby mode. Is what I'm reading here relevant to my situation. What do I do next? The radio is a 2 years old.

Needing a Contact for Dead Radio

Tue Jun 03, 2008 9:52 am

Is there anyone that I can contact regarding my dead radio. I have received a response back from Roku Customer Care with ticket #HD151547 on Saturday May 31, 2008. It said I should hear from someone within the next 24 to 48 hours. I just need know should I return to radio for repairs?
