Ah, thanks for the info Brett. That's beyond my limited understanding, so I guess the question is, can anything be done?

Maybe :D I'm going to try setting up a cross-compilation environment to build Firefly from source. I have the QNAP TS-101 and Roku M1001 myself, so I'd like to get this working.

Firefly packaged for QNAP TS-101

Wed Dec 26, 2007 4:08 pm

The ppc ipkg available here does not work on the TS-101:

http://nightlies.mt-daapd.org/

I grabbed the source tarball from that same page and cross-compiled an ipkg per the instructions here:

http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware ... eToOptware

I had to hack up the existing Optware make/mt-daapd.mk to get the updated source package to build (as files, dirs have moved around since v2.4.1). It's running now on my TS-101 with the Roku as client.

YMMV. You can try it out with these commands on the TS-101:
cd /opt/var
wget http://brett.benders.net/mt-daapd_svn-1696-1_powerpc.ipk
ipkg install mt-daapd_svn-1696-1_powerpc.ipk

Hey Brett,

Thanks for that. I got your package to install, with all dependancies.

Then I get the message about configuring mt-daapt.conf and running the deamon.

But then I get the following whilst the various dependant packages are configuring:

Configuring ncurses
update-alternatives: Error: not linking //opt/bin/clear to /opt/bin/ncurses-clear since //opt/bin/clear exists and is not a link
postinst script returned status 1
ERROR: ncurses.postinst returned 1

All other packages seem to configure sucessfully.

If I ignore this, and try to launch /opt/etc/init.d/S60mt-daapd it seems like nothing has happened, and under ps -x I don't see a running process for mt-daapt.

So near... ;)

That error from ncurses should be harmless.

There is probably some issue with the mt-daapd.conf file (for example, mp3_dir might be pointing to a directory that you do not have).

Try starting mt-daapd in the foreground:

/opt/sbin/mt-daapd -d 9 -f -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf

and see if you get a (hopefully useful...) error message. Post the output here if you need help troubleshooting.

I tried to follow the instructions but it's not working for me. Can you please share your experiences of how you manage to compile and create ipk package?
