find command started listing all my music... first two lines below.

# find / -name mp3
vi opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf
find: /share/hdd/data/HDD_1_1_1/Music/MP3/Various Artists/Hardcore Holocaust (Th
e Peel Sessions): No such file or directory
find: /share/hdd/data/HDD_1_1_1/Music/MP3/Ratos De Porão: No such file or direct
ory

...so if i change path to /share/hdd/data/HDD_1_1_1/Music/ you reckon it'll do the trick???

OK, I've done that anyway and my HD is chugging away, like it's being indexed. Slug now showing this:

mp3_dir /share/hdd/data/HDD_1_1_1/Music/

#
# servername (required)
#
# This is both the name of the server as advertised
# ps -ef | grep mt-daapd
636 root 1964 R vi /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf
652 ttyp1 root 2668 S grep mt-daapd
# kill -9 636
# ps -ef | grep mt-daapd
655 ttyp1 root 2668 S grep mt-daapd
# /opt/etc/init.d/S60mt-daapd
# ps -ef | grep mt-daapd
661 ttyp1 guest 1932 S /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-
662 ttyp1 guest 4620 D /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-
663 ttyp1 guest 4620 S /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-
664 ttyp1 guest 4620 S /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-
667 ttyp1 root 2668 S grep mt-daapd
#

But still can't get into the Firefly web config page.

Hmm...well it looks like it.

But I'm confused about the line in your note involving "vi....mt-daapd.conf". And also confused about why it's trying to list all of your music and getting "file not found"

Did you try to enter the vi command on the same command line as find?

Here's what it looks like when I do a find on my music directory:

# find / -name musiclib
/share/flash/data/public/musiclib
#

Wonder where the "HDD_1_1_1" came from when you unslung??

We're crossing messages in the Ether

Sounds like it's doing the initial scan to build your database. Give it a few minutes.

Well, everything was going well, but now everything is locked up... can't telnet, no SLUG config page and not showing up in my network places.

Can't reboot slug with front button. Nothing seems to be working.

I've had enough fror tonight it's driving me MAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!

Anyway, thanks for ALL your help.
I'm off to London for a day's boozing tomorrow, so I'll come back to this Sunday with a calm outlook and have another go.

Cheers mate.

Now mate, everything is alright :)
Just indexing the database makes the slug really busy.
And when I say really, it mean really. Up to the point where it doesnt react to any outside stir. So just leave it like that and be patient. I think it's about time to tell you the reason for the nickname "slug" ;) Or did you maybe guess it already? :D

Anyway, cheers mate.

I left the SLUG to do it's own thing overnight, got up this morning and....
HEY WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!

Thanks so much guys. It's so refreshing in this day and age that people are actually prepared to help others, especially when it doesn't go right first time!!

Just a couple o' other tiny things...

1) On the Firefly config page, the rescan interval is 600 - seconds? minutes? - what is the recommended value ( I don't add new files all taht often.
2) The slug appears in my network places. If I want to add my hard disk to metwork places, do you know what path name I should enter?
3) My playlists (.pls generated in WMP) don't show up on the SoundBridge. What format should they be?

Right - off to London for that beer.

Thanks again

Phil.

Sweet:)

I'd set the rescan interval to 0, or 86400. The former would be do not rescan unless you tell it to do so on the web-config page thingy, the latter would be to rescan weekly. Since scanning is cumbersome for the poor slug, 600 seconds isnt really feasible.

Not sure since it doesn't seem your file systems are mounted the same way as mine, but I think from what you said before it would be something like \\<name-or-ip-address-of-slug>\HDD_1_1_1. Really, whatever your "X:" currently maps to (didn't you say you map "X:" to the Samba share?)

I could be wrong, but I don't think Firefly will process .pls-formatted playlists (not sure cause I don't use them). I think they need to be .m3u format. Be sure on your Firefly config you have "Process Playlists" set to yes (1 in mt-daapd.conf if you want to go through manually editing it again  ), and "Process .m3u" is set to yes also (again, 1 in the .conf file).
