Firefly on my CH3WNAS

Sun Apr 27, 2008 11:53 am

Hello everybody,

I managed to get Firefly working on my CH3WNAS which is hardware identical to the DSM G600 using the following steps: http://dsmg600.info/howto:firefly

However, my Roku Soundbrigde complains that it sees a DAAP server, but that it can't connect (and that I should use Firefly... d'oh!). However, the iTunes running on my PC can see the Firefly server.

Maybe RSP is required? The precompiled version of mt-daapd I have now (version 0.2.4) doesn't have it. Can someone help me get it for my NAS?

This means you have a Pinnacle SoundBridge not a Roku SoundBridge. Roku branded units can use Apple's daap protocol, Pinnacle units can't.

For a later version of Firefly you'll either have to compile it yourself from source code or find someone who's already done it.

You're right, I have a Pinnacle but I thought it was the same as Roku. It says on the box: powered by Roku and also when I turn it on it mentions Roku. Does this mean it's exactly the same hardware? Maybe I could install some firmware which can work with DAAP?

Pinnacle are the European distributors for Roku, and they rebadge as Pinnacle.

Because licensing is not the same as the USA you are forced to use RSP to talk to the unit - this means Firefly is your best chance.

If you can stomach it, you will have to recompile 1596 (for sqlite2) or 1969 (if you use sqlite3).

Best of luck :D

I don't know how to compile for my NAS (CH3WNAS)... it would be great if someone could, because the standard upnp server sucks.

Yes, I got svn 1696 working on my NAS under Gentoo! Works like a charm now!
