Can I Run Firefly and Vista Media Center Simultaneously

Sun May 10, 2009 7:32 am

Hello All,

For the past 3-4 years I've been running Firely Media Server / Bonjour install on an old Windows XP machine hanging in my basement. It serves music to my three Roku M1001's

As of Christmas I purchased a Windows Vista computer with Media Center and an Xbox 360. From this new computer I am serving Video / TV to the Xbox 360 (as an extender).

Instead of having two computers running 24/7 I was wondering if I could just use the Vista computer to serve video and music?

I have a couple of questions:

1) Can I run Firefly along with Media Center to serve music to my M1001's without running into conflicts?

2) Could I just use Vista media center to serve music to the Roku's?

Thanks for your help,
Kato

Hi kato

Yes.

No, media centre is not a upnp server. But you can use Windows Media Player which on Vista includes the server part (windows media connect). Media Centre uses the same library.

Great! Thanks for the reply.

Do I have to install Bonjour on my Vista machine to run Firefly?

Yes.
Follow the instructions here: http://www.roku.com/support_sb_dwnld_firefly.php
Get the latest firefly build here (in preference to the version on the above page): http://nightlies.fireflymediaserver.org ... n=svn-1586
