after setting permissions scan my folder fails

Fri May 07, 2010 3:05 am

Hi all

I gave permissions to everyone in my music folder (in an USB disk) with this command:

CODE: SELECT ALL
chmod o+r -R /media/my_USB_Diskd/mp3_files

But I still get this message when trying to scan my music folder:

:Rescanning Database
:Starting Playlist Scan
:Updating Playlist
:Scanned 0 Songs (was 0) in 0 Seconds
pendir: permission denied
:Error Rescanning....bad path?

any help would be appreciated

You are not giving us much help here. As bregent suggested, you may have set the media folder path in Firefly incorrectly. The path you gave in your chmod example does not look correct, is the "media" folder really at the drive root "/"? I would expect to see a full drive specification in the path, e.g. /mnt/usb/media...

Also I doubt whether it is a permissions problem, unless you had previously removed the read attribute for "others"
