Firefly Beta 3 now available

Sat May 06, 2006 9:19 pm

Get it from: http://www.fireflymediaserver.org

It fixes several bugs and automates adding an exception to the Windows XP SP2 Firewall.

[EDIT] Firefly Beta 3 is now available. It is the same as mt-daapd svn-1025

beta 2

Sat May 06, 2006 9:29 pm

What is the build number - or different features - relationship between that "Beta 2" build and the current "nightly" build of Firefly (which reports itself as "svn-1018" and available from http://nightlies.mt-daapd.org/) please?

I believe Beta 2 is svn-1018.

Firefly for Mac ?

Wed May 10, 2006 6:36 am

I work for a Apple Macintosh Reseller and we just received some Pinnacle branded Soundbridges. They don't seem to work with iTunes/Bonjour as mentioned in the user's guide. What gives ?

This is strange; I *didn't* write the "I believe Beta 2..." message/line above, but I did write the "What is the build number".

How did someone write that reply as me? Thanks for the information whoever you are (or indeed myself in some alternate reality who popped over for a look here...).

It is a licensing issue, Pinnacle doesn't have a license with Apple to use iTunes. I think they thought they could just piggy back on Roku's license but Apple must not have liked that.

Hi, I'm thinking of giving Firefly a shot, and I thought I remember seeing there was a Windows version, but if I go to http://www.fireflymediaserver.org, it sure looks just like linux packages. Am I missing something? Mis-informed? Please set me straight.

Thanks!

The URL no longer goes to a "Roku" run site... to get the latest Windows build from Ron, get it from the "Nightlies" section:
http://nightlies.mt-daapd.org

I'll put some pointers on the front page to point people to the right direction. Right now the web site isn't very friendly for folks just looking to kick the tires.

Ah. Cool. Thanks.

I must have smart playlists! Once I got a taste with my old Creative Wireless Music system I gotta' have more! It's the crack of didital music server features!

So, is there no "stable" version for Windows?

Nope, the "stable" is based on the old 0.2.4 code base, which I didn't bother backporting to windows. The current nightlies do smart playlists, though... check out the "smart" tab on the web interface.

How do I get to the web interface? Thanks again!

Whoops, never mind I fond it (localhost:9999) once I got through the firewall.

Ah. Sorry.. go to http://server:port, where server is the name or ip address of the server, and port is the port specified in the config file. It's usually 9999 for firefly.

If you are using safari, it should show up in your bonjour bookmarks also.
