NSLU2 and ipkg

Ron,

Are you planning to keep releasing (relevant) nightlies of Firefly in ipk format for the nslu2?

There are quite a few of us with unslung nslu2's running mt-daapd that would be keen to see this!

I have been meaning to upgrade from svn909 to svn1005 (now 1018) since I saw it there last week. One question though: Do I just install over the top, or do I need to uninstall 909 first? If so, how do I do that?

I did see the recent slug nightlies and I've seen Ron's statement about using the nslu2 as a development box on the page. What I was wondering was whether the intention was to *keep going* with the nslu2 builds given that Ron's got to sort out the Win32 side of things. I could see a scenario where doing builds for multiple platforms becomes a real pain.

The last (1025?) build I release was just win32, as the only substantial changes were win32 changes. If I change something that affects nslu2 or unix builds, then I'll packages those up as well.

The builds aren't that bad... the aren't completely hands-off scripted, but they are nearly that way, so it really isn't too bad. If I can get some virtualization going, then I'll likely try and get automated nightly builds for all platforms. That would be nice.

Short answer is yes, I will continue to dump versions for all platforms.

Oh... and as far as uninstall/reinstall, no -- you can just ipk install over the top of the old version, you'll be fine.

just grab the package and ipkg install it.

you might notice some deps that have changed, eventually.

one hint though: the installer might ask you to keep or replace your .conf file, you should back up your old one and go with the new one from the current version.
you can then set all other stuff back, but there are most likely new settings.

Just stealing this thread..

I'm running a unslunged NSLU2 with Twonky installed on it.
I downloaded the ipk file, but just don't know what to do with it..

Do I need anything else other than that single file, and can someone explain it to me how and what I should do?

btw: I'm a complete Linux novice.

Basically, just get the file over to your nslu2. Once you have it somewhere, (/share/hdd/data/public, maybe?) then ipkg install it:

root@slug:/share/hdd/data/public# ipkg install ./mt-daapd_svn-1018-1.armeb.ipk

It might complain about missing libao, you can get that package on the nightlies page as well. Install that the same way, and then try to install the nightlies.

I don't even know where do set the server up, when I've installed it correctly. Is there a web config, or a file located on the NSLU2?

Try doing a "ipkg update". If that doesn't work, do a "ipkg install unslung-feeds", then a "ipkg update", then try the install again.

The config file is in /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf, and there is a web config, but it's still a work-in-progress. (read that as: doesn't work).

Basically, though, the config should be set up so that you can drop files in a directory called "mp3" in your "disk 1", and everything should work.

Sorry, I'm a moron.. The NSLU2 couldn't connect to the internet because of missing DNS entries. Now the installer can complete without any problems. Sorry for that.

Just one last question:
I've got 2 servers. I guess, one is for mt-daapd and the other one is the Firefly? How do I remove/hide the mt-daapd one?

Right now you don't. The firefly one is the one that says (rsp). At some point the daap one will be a plug-in as well, and you'll just choose not to run that plugin.

I just installed the latest nightly (svn-1197). I also have 2 servers showing up on my SB M2000. The SB says:

Play slug_of_mark Firefly Server

and

Play slug_of_mark Firefly Server (rsp).

So, the second one is the one to use, right?

My other problem is that it doesn't seem to pick up wma lossless. I ripped one CD and copied it to the NSLU2, but the files don't get displayed on the SB.

My mt-daapd.conf file has the line:

extensions = .mp3,.m4a,.m4p,.ogg,.flac,.wma

which I edited manually to add the .wma at the end.

What am I missing in order to make it play .wma lossless?
