Crash on full db scan with svn-1050

Wed May 17, 2006 2:57 am

I installed the latest nightly build (svn-1050, Windows version) and it seems to have upgraded successfully and started ok. The admin web interface came up, etc.

I stopped the service and deleted songs.db so it would rescan all the files (because of the WMA tag parsing enhancements listed in the release information for this build), and now as soon as I start the process the firefly.exe service crashes.

When I try running it from the command-line I get the following output:

C:\Program Files\Firefly Media Server>firefly -d9

(and at this point I get the Dr Watson popup and can't proceed)

So it seems to me it isn't getting very far. Not sure what the problem is but svn-1025 was working fine on the same system, and even svn-1050 looked to be ok until I deleted songs.db to give it a fresh start.

Scratch that, it's 1055, and it's up.

Can you shutdown the server and the tray icon and reinstall? Also, check to make sure you don't have an old w32-event.dll sitting around.

Ok, shutdown -- uninstall -- and reinstall. Everything seems to be working... well, it's indexing now and not crashing. :) Thanks.

Hmm... clearly installer stupidage going on there. Might have to see if I can dump an install log to see whats going on there.

Sorry, my mistake. Still crashes. When I uninstalled/reinstalled, the config file was reset... so it stopped trying to parse WMA. Once I added .wma as an extension again, it crashes when doing the initial index. :(

I tried a few more experiments and it's still crashing with WMA. Not sure what to try...

svn-1055 is also crashing for me (identical trace output to what I posted above from svn-1050) when I delete songs.db and do a rescan (including wma files).

This is even after an uninstall of Firefly (including checking the files/folder are physically deleted from the computer) and "clean" install of svn-1055.

Uninstalling again and reinstalling svn-1025 then works correctly, even including a full library rescan of the same library files which svn-1055 is failing on.

It does appear to be related to the inclusion of .wma files in the scan (but I have only very few .mp3 files so maybe this isn't definite), but as per the debug trace output above there are no folder or file names listed anywhere in the Firefly output before the crash, so I don't really know what pointers I can offer to get this resolved quickly.

It has to be wma scanning, but it doesn't look like it from the logs you've quoted.

Can you get me a -d10 log with a full scan?

There doesn't seem to be anything useful. :-(

Ok, by running in the foreground... I'm catching the WMA files that Firefly is crashing on. So far I've found 2 files that cause grief... that originally didn't. Once I gather all of them, I guess I'll pass them to you for evaluation.
