Compilation Tag on FireFly

Mon May 22, 2006 2:45 pm

Hi, I've been testing the FireFly Server and it seams to work great.

I would like to request a feature for this new server. I think it would be great if you can set an option to group compilation tracks, just like itunes. It really annoying to see a list of "never-heard" artists when you are browsing by artist in the soundbridge.

Thanks, all..and thanks for everything..

Hi,

I put them all in a "Sampler" directory and announce that in the config. They appear as Artist "Various" ad Title "Artist - Title". That's perfect for me.

Carsten.

I never really used iTunes, so I'd probably the resolution that has been discussed in some other thread here.

like Album Artist search, that just includes Albums with one distinct artist.
;)

I would hate having to go through all my music and set the iTunes compilation flag just for that. :roll:

To name the artist 'various' is a workaround but not the way you should want it.
In the artist field, the artist name should be there, so when you search for an artist, you'll have the right results. 8)

Ok, could you tell me more on how do you announce this in the config file, I'm really very interested

Something like this used to work, I assume it still does in modern Firefly:

compdirs = D:\My Music\Various Artists
concat compilations = 1

compsdir forces the content to appear with "Various Artists" as the Artist on all files in the tree specified... and concat shoves the former Artist field into the Title, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, Album Artist is a much better solution...

that's

[general]
compdirs = d:\my music\various artists
[scanning]
concat compilations = 1

compdirs is multivalued and a substring as well, so "various artists" would work. So:

compdirs = various,soundtracks

would work too.

I understand I have to c/p this into the config file? I can't remember I've these lines there.

I saw something like that in the HTML interface, but it didn't work for me.

Yep, you'll have to do the "advanced config" and put that right in the config file itself, somewhere under the GENERAL section.

*next* version, the web config interface should be working correctly.
