RSS, iTunes player, RTSP

Thu Jun 07, 2007 9:32 am

Well, after quite some time sitting in the basement dead and a trip to Texas to Matt's incredible hands, my 'baby' is on its way back home revived. Since it's original death, my home setup evolved quite a lot and so did my 'needs' ... I read somewhere that there was at one time a RSS news reader and a iTunes player available for the Photobridge. Does anyone have any of them (or the source) ?

Right now, I am completing my PVR solution (HAVA records with MCE on my basement desktop, DVRMSToolbox automatically converts to mpeg on NAS which runs Twonky to share the TV programming via UPnP or just a simple mount). I will use the PB for viewer with MPlay :)

I was hoping to use a DAAP compatible player to stream the music part of my library and finding a RSS news reader to complement the weather app.

Another question I have, is that HAVA is starting to unlock RTSP protocol and I was wondering if the PB was able to stream this ?

Thanks for all the help !

There was a iTunes player a couple of years ago, but I don't think it works with the later PhotoBridge firmwares. http://forums.rokulabs.com/viewtopic.php?t=1917
But there are two excellent music applications for the PhotoBridge, Sonica http://www.bobsplace.com/sonica/ and SlimRoku http://www.permanence.com/SlimRoku/index.html.

What music format are your files? If they are AAC it might be better to go with Slimroku as the PhotoBridge has some issues natively playing back AAC files.

There was a RSS reader program, but that was for the old (version 1) firmware. However there is a RSS solution for the PhotoBridge, its one of the services/apps provided by SDesk. http://forums.rokulabs.com/viewtopic.php?t=10773

I did not knew SDesk had a RSS news reader, I'll look into it ...
As for the iTunes player, the link is invalid :( I've searched it without much success.
SlimRoku, although a great app, does not fit the bill, mainly due to the slimserver requirement. Loved Sonica, but wanted to avoid mounts and use Firefly as much as possible for audio streaming. Maybe mess around with the Sonica code to make a DAAP/RSP version compatible with Firefly would be nice ... I don't know how hard that would be (mostly time consuming I guess)
Thanks for hints, anybody else want's to pitch in ?

AFAIK, there is not a DAAP solution for the Photobridge. Anyone wanna buy Ron Pedde a Photobridge and maybe he can make a DAAP client? :)

Would a REV-A work, or does he need a REB-B? I assume an A with a swap file running would be fine?
Roku3 and Roku HD1000 [Rev B] on a Samsung HLP5674W DLP in the living room; a Roku2 and two Roku XS and a few SoundBridges.Win7; Kubuntu and XP via RT-N66U, E2000 and a switch or two. I own stock in Roku, it's just all in the form of hardware.Viva la Roku

First of all, I don't want to speak for Ron, so I have no idea if he'd be willing to do it. But I can't imagine why a Rev A wouldn't work...

I guess it would not be the will to do it but rather the time, he is pretty much buried in the Firefly stuff. If he can pump out a version that supports both UPnP and DAAP, it would kinda *solve* my issue.

Can give him a shout still, he is always into new things ...

I have a copy of the iTunes software along with a most of the third party apps on my site. Here's the list http://www.bobsplace.com/sonica/app_list.html
