Streaming video from the Internet

Sun Nov 11, 2007 7:41 am

Is it possible to use the ROKU Photobridge to stream video from the Internet? This enables viewing on a larger screen than the laptop. Such things as the Instant Watch films from a number of video web services.

Appreciate step by step instructions, if this is possible.

Thanks, Icepack

I know of no commonly used video streaming solution that streams in a format playable by the Photobridge.

DG, How about that VLC deal? It makes the HD1000 something of a "Thin Client" where you can see your PC desktop, right? This may not be what he want's, but open WMP on the PC and view it on the HD1000. Probably would not work, but wanted to throw it up in the mix all the same.

I suppose that is entirely possible, with quite a bit of work and some sort of front end for it. Using VLC somehow would require transcoding, and I got the impression the inquirer was looking for something more "native". But don't you mean something more like a remote desktop, more VNC than VLC?

I'm not personally gonna dive into trying VLC though; "internet" videos are so low rez they would look like crap on a 62" screen anyway. Heck, they look like crap on the 24" at my PC. FWIW the DL link from Roku's 3rd party page seems broken anyway.
