bitstream passing

Can a .pcm or .wav files be passed as a bitstream directly to a processor from the hd1000 without the hd1000 processing the file?

If I understand your question correctly, you're asking can the hd1000 play a WAV file without upsampling (say). In this case, yes.
The way I test this with devices is that I use a WAV file encoded in 44.1 kHz which is actually DTS encoded. If the media device does any modification of the output then you will only hear static. The hd1000 plays music in this test, so yes it can play files without processing. A large number of devices force the output to 48 kHz, not the hd1000.
However this comes with the caveat of what you're trying to play, you won't have any luck trying to play 24-bit files for example. As far as I know the sound chip (codec) is capable, but Roku never got around to enabling support for it.

Hi soiaf,

Thanks for the reply. I really just want to stream bits from my NAS or PC to my Integra 9.8 processor. The integra accepts and decodes pcm up to 192khz/24 bit as well as DSD, MLP, DTS, DTSHD, DTS Master, Dolby Plus, Dolby True HD, as well as AC3. If I could just find a way to send those bits to the processor, it should be able to play just about anything.

that is one sweet pre-amp! I was always disappointed that the Roku PB couldn't extract/play DTS on my ripped DVD's. I suppose the root of the problem was that Roku didn't license the appropriate IP from DTS

lack of DTS + lack of subtitles mean that MPlay is not my perfect solution for networkable, ripped DVDs. close, but no cigar.

I've only been able to stream 2 channel PCM stereo + Dolby Digital from my Roku to my stereo.
PB1000 Rev. A (X3), PB1000 Rev. B (X3), SlimServer 6.5.4 + Nero MediaHome (for transcoding to MPlay)
