No new PhotoBridges available till Jan. 06

Wed Oct 26, 2005 10:18 pm

According to the Roku web site (store), there will be no new PB1000/1500 available until Jan. 06 (there are refurb units available). Guess that means one of two things: new model comming, or PB is such a poor seller that Roku can't justify building more for a 4th quarter selling season. Any enlightenment form Roku would be appreciated. As a supporter for 2 years, it would be nice to know what the future holds.

Wow. Not having any inventory for the Christmas season is, uh... implication of things not good to come. In general terms I could understand not making more current models if a newer model is around the corner, but in products like this, this is simply not something done between October and the end of December.

Considering how little development PB1000 has received, I would be very suprised it they would not discontinue the product for good.

RokuDave just posted in the Beta forum yesterday that he would like people to submit problem video files because they are going to be spending the next few weeks working on fixes. There is no reason to believe this is an abondoned product at this point.

Out of inventory is weird though but who knows...

Could just be a supplier issue (cases, remotes, ATI chipsets, whatever...), and not necessarily so forbiding and indication of the future...

At least, that's the "glass half full" view... :)

The issue is neither a new model nor sales problems. We're quite disappointed that we won't have direct-sales units for the holidays. However your friendly neighborhood photobridge-carrying retailer may very well have units.

Strange, I've checked Tweeter, BestBuy and Circuit City. They carry soundbridge only. But, the PB is now available again directly.

Yeah, here in Houston, TX I can't find one. Fry's Electronics sometimes has them. I've never seen them at Tweeter, Best Buy, or CC. If anyone has a bead on finding one at an online store, please post here. Thanks.
Gil

PS: Looks like Fry's online site outpost.com has the HD1500s but not the HD1000s.

I bought my HD1500 from www.newegg.com. They list it right now for $377 but say they're out of stock.

www.crutchfield.com used to stock 'em.

I've never seen one in a local Tweeter, or Best Buy. Both have Soundbridge on demo, but no Photobridge. Circuit City folks here couldn't figure out what I was asking about, then again they called the 70" Hitachi RP-LCD I was looking at buying (for almost $5k) the "best plasma screen we sell". I ran out of store...

And I got mine at my local Tweeter in Hamden, CT in September. They did have to order it, but it came in very quickly.

It seems that Tweeter has a big warehouse for each territory or state and they sometimes transfer from other locations too. In other words, they are not ordering it from the vendor, but having it sent from one of their warehouses I assume?

I don't know for sure, but I that's always been my assumption as well. It came in fairly quickly (within a week, as I recall).

I was hoping for a new product announcement at CES this year. :(
