WindowsXP halts

Tue Jan 03, 2006 11:39 am

Hi,
I wonder if anyone else has had problem with WindowsXP pro SP2 machine. When I started sharing files to Roku PhotoBridge it seems to totally go to halt after viewing/playing any files from SMB share. I is not related to any of the applications (listen, photo, mplay), it seems to be just the amount of traffic?

If I listen with SlimRoku, it seems not to halt, so it really seems to be related to SMB. I tried to use cat <file> > /dev/null in roku, but did not manage to make windows halt.

With halt i mean that there is no bluescreenof death, but it just jams with mouse stuck and ctrl+alt+del not working...

I tried to google and just came up with topic "WindowsXP pro edition features"

I don't view files from my XP-SP2 box very often (I view from a Linux server via NFS sharing), but when I do I don't have the problem you describe. I'm running 2.0.34.

Are you using the SP2 firewall? I'm not. Worth a shot turning it off for some tests.

Hi,

Yes I'm using winxp firewall. I'll try to turn it off (disconnecting adsl before that) and see if it helps...

in long term I'm moving to linux server, but I still have Nebula PCI DVB-T card still on my windows machine and didn't get it working easily on linux (used about 20 hours or hacking and reading...).

I have windows xp sp2 with the firewall turned on and get no hangups or anything. Both the Roku and the windows box can run for days. Actually the Windows box goes for weeks, but I have to reboot the Roku from time to time because of apps gone awry.
Just wanted you to know it can work OK.

Yeah, I figured it would, but if that fixes his problem at least we'll know the culprit, then someone savvy could help him with rules.
