Any news on update yet?

Wed Dec 01, 2004 11:34 am

Aren't we ever going to see a firmware update to the hd1000, I think this box has a lot more capacity than is being used.

As a picture viewer is great, but I haven't found a lot of uses for it, it works kind of ok as a Dvarchive client but it does have some sync problems. I wish it supported something other than transport streams.

What are you using yours for.

Oh, by the way I'm sorry I just saw the other thread about asking when an upgrade was coming, I guess this is sort of a duplicate.

Using mine mainly for playing ripped DVD's (VOB's) via CinemaSix. Actually works exceptionally well.

Would be nice if it could do full DVD menu's.

Use it also for picture viewing when I have friend and family around. It has taken the place of my Turtle Beach Audiotron but I have to honestly say since I made the switch to the Roku I don't listen to MP3's as often. The interface is just to painly to get around for music. For that reason I do miss my audiotron but I have been willing to deal with it while I wait for the updates.

Your playing vobs or vobs converted to transport streams?

It has been mentioned several times now that Roku is working on an update and it will be released in December.

Hope that helps.....

Vob's

If you download the third party app called CinemaSix and put it on a network share or CF Card you can play VOB's and Mpeg-2 files.

Pretty handy, will be nice if they incorporate it into the actual interface rather than having it be a downloaded app.

Ok, but how about how does it do with vobs?

Wed Dec 01, 2004 5:20 pm

Maybe, but I'm more interested as to how vobs play on the device. The only mpegs I seem to be able to play are those streamed from dvarchive.

Thanks

Flawless, if your on a wired network.

I had it running off a G-wireless network but it still would get chop from time to time. I suppose under optimal conditions it would work without the chop but my wireless router was about 100 feet away so the bandwith was dropping quickly.

I put a hub in my audio rack and setup a second network that has my NAS and HD1000 in it (also has a PS2 and Xbox and G-ethernet bridge to feed back to my prime network). Since I've done that my VOB's are just like watching the DVD, less the menu's.

They play using Sujal's CinemaSix application. It transcodes in realtime from program stream to transport stream.

What does that have to do with HD1000? That's a Soundbridge beta.

Well, good news is on the way. We will be launching an HD1000 public beta later this month. Stay tuned!
