I can't tell you exactly when Filmstruck will come to Roku, but i can tell you that two days ago i got an email from them asking if i want to be a Beta tester for their Roku channel, and that if i agree i'll receive two months free.
The email also said:"Please be aware that some older devices such as Roku 1 and Roku 2 are not supported with video playback at this time".I own a Roku 1 and a Roku 2XS(3100). I presume those models are too slow to perform well.
So Take what meaning you will from the email....sounds to me like we might have Filmstruck sometime by mid/late summer.I sure do hope so.

...Billy T, thanks for your info/input.  I also have my Roku 1 and a 2/m3100 (still using everyday.
As new streaming channels pop-up I slowly am weeding out some older channels and adding ones that better fit my needs.  'FilmStruck'  TCM is a good one, plus it is offering 'Criterion' collection bundled for $99. yrly.   For me, another good pick will be 'BritBox'.
Hope we do get FilmStruck channel soonest.   Best regards

Filmstruck just showed up in the channel store and I added it. It won't get past loading and then the error message says it can't connect to the remote server.

I have a Roku 2 that is only about a year old. Filmstruck help says that Rokus 1 and 2 manufactured before about 2013 may have slow video start times. I'm hoping the problem I'm seeing is related to birthing issues instead of my device. Has anyone else with a newer Roku model successfully gotten it to work?

Quick update: The app connected and films stream properly, but moving around in the app (browse, search, etc) is slow with lots of loading. Again, I'd appreciate knowing if a newer Roku model is faster.

I splurged and just got a Premiere+. Within the app it works somewhat faster than the Roku 2. I suspect the remaining loading is on their end.

I have a Roku 2, and I cannot get anything to play for longer than 30 seconds. Filmstruck wrote the following to me in an e-mail on 6/7/17:

"Roku 1 and Roku 2 devices will not be supported at the time of launch. However, Roku will have a firmware update in July 2017 that will enable your device to use the FilmStruck Roku channel. Using the channel before the firmware is released by Roku can cause instability and problems with streaming."

That's pretty common with most things Roku. Same thing with Samsung. Never tell you what the new firmware is for.

I just noticed the update, too, and also looked for release notes.  The obvious change is there are new separate theme and subject lists.

This app is why I cut the cable and bought a Roku, but it's definitely turning me into a couch potato!
