Would a Roku Express+ be an improvement over a Roku 1?

Tue Oct 31, 2017 11:18 pm

Right now I have a Roku 1 connected to my vintage Sony TV using RCA cables. It works pretty well. PQ is good and I love that old Sony TV.

The downside is that the Roku 1 is painfully slow compared to my Roku Premier+ that I have connected via HDMI to a flat screen.

So my question is, would the Express+ be an improvement? Could I navigate the Roku home screen faster with the Express+? If not I see no reason to upgrade since the Roku1 works OK otherwise. But if it's faster I want to upgrade. Thanks.

I've used both. Well, last year's Roku Express+ (3710), not the new one (3910). I find the Roku Express+ to be a noticeably faster device.

Never had a Roku 1, as I considered buying one until I read about the Express+. I had the LT for years, but it ran pretty slow. Bought the Express+ and wow! what a difference. I can now subscribe to Warner Archive and it plays beautifully where my LT was also going to "loading" . The $39 I spent at Walmart for the Express+ was well worth it. Really fast!
