Loading dot freezing?

Tue Aug 06, 2019 8:17 pm

Starting a few days ago, our roku (cheap one, not sure of model, just musb and hdmi connections) will not get past the initial splash screen. The logo and "dot" come up.
The dot gets about 3-4 pulses and freezes. Unplugged many times, including leaving unplugged for a while. replaced the batts, done the paper clip reboot many times, including holding for the fast flash factory reboot, tried the remote reboot w no reaction. Even tried rebooting w the wifi down.
Anyone got any other suggestions? I would even consider holy water and or mistletoe at this point.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
J

When you did the hard reset (paper clip on the recessed button) do you hold it for a minimum of 30 seconds? And I don't mean 29. Regardless of what is happening on the screen, you have to hold it 30 seconds or longer to do a complete reset. Give it another try and let us know if that worked.

Does this unit have a microSD card installed? If so, remove it and then reboot.

Tried holding it a full minute, after a few seconds it flashes like 5 times, then tries loading the splash screen again after about 10 sec. Tried several times w the same result.

Then it sounds defective. If you are within the one year warranty period, I suggest contacting Roku Support to see about an exchange. Note that this forum is not considered customer support, although the Roku forum admins do attempt to help when they can.

How are you powering it? If via USB, use a wall outlet. And if using a wall outlet (powerstrip or outlet), try using a different wall outlet - even if you need an extension cord.

If using a powerstrip, try going directly into the wall outlet, bypassing the powerstrip.

Trying to rule everything out here.
