*List of Netflix Watch Instantly movies about to expire*

Thu Jun 12, 2008 11:37 am

UPDATE (Dec. 2): So many movies are set to expire at the moment, it's almost too many to list. Check out this page for a partial listing:

http://community.netflix.com/group/iwtr ... c%3A104844

I thought it'd be a good idea to start a running list of movies that are about to be pulled from Watch Instantly availability, so that anyone interested can catch'em before they're gone.

Currently, the only way to tell if a movie or show is slated for removal is to have it in your queue, so let's pool resources and post the ones you see in yours!

Movies about to expire:

August 14, '08
MVP (2008)

August 19, '08
Smiley Face (2007)

August 31, '08
The Innocents (1961)
The Jerk (1979)
Girl 6 (1996)The Rains Came (1939)
Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

September 1, '08
Necessary Roughness (1991)
Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991)
Mars Attacks! (1996)
The Dead Pool (1988)
Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)
Beetlejuice (1988)
The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986)

September 3, '08
Dave Chappelle: For What It's Worth (2004)

There's also a great page tracking soon-to-expire movies at Movie Fans, where I found a lot of info for this post.

Thanks for the additions! I'll add them into the original post. I also updated it with a page at Movie Fans that tracks soon-to-expire selections too. But our list is more comprehensive already! 8)

EDIT: Fixed Bill & Ted's to read Bogus Journey instead of Excellent Adventure.

Why would they remove movies from the Instant Watch list? They can't have more than 10,000 available at a time?

IP owners can be more easily persuaded to provide a limited-time license than to assign rights in perpetuity. I'm sure that when Netflix can obtain long-term licenses at reasonable cost, they do so.

Thank you for this.

I'm getting concerned that Netflix is expiring decent movies and lately only been adding crap. Frankly, after seeing what's been added the last few weeks, I'd be hesitant about buying a Netflix-based streaming device.

The company needs to add decent material, not just 1 star awfuls.

Seriously!! After subscribing to the "Newest Instant Titles" RSS feed, I've been taken aback at the quality of movies being added.

p.s. Is there a similar feed available for the "about to expire" titles?

Troma seems to have sold their souls to Netflix, because that is the only thing that has been added in the past month, all of their horrible crap.

No, there isn't a feed for "About to Expire", but someone with the tech know-how could make one if they felt like it.

As most of us know, figuring out when, or even if a movie is going to expire from the Instant Watch service is not an easy task. The movie must be added to a user's instant queue before the expiration date will even appear, so the process requires a bit of human interaction.

I've made some updates to the Instant Watch Tracker (http://www.thenowhereman.com/netflix/). Each title now has a space for an expiration date, but it's up to the community to provide the data. Much like this thread, if you notice an instant watch title in your queue with an expiration date and you want to help the rest of us out by sharing that information, you can go to the tracker and enter the date.

There is also now an RSS feed for expiring titles at http://feeds.feedburner.com/NF-ExpiringInstantTitles

i appreciate the updates you have done to your site, and the RSS feeds

it is pretty disappointing knowing that some of the titles are only around for a short while. i hope robust sales of the netflix box will help with the selection.

Selection/availability will be what makes or breaks this endeavor. It's slim pickings at the moment. Let's see how it plays out.

I noticed this for the first time in my smallish instant queue today (Obviously I knew about your thread months ago ). This is just the first time movies in my queue have warned me of their impending doom!

Well, I guess I'm being forced to watch them now. Here are the ones about to expire for me:

Mars Attacks! SEPTEMBER 01, 2008
Beetlejuice SEPTEMBER 01, 2008

Kind of pointless for Netflix to expire these, considering you could see these movies on cable TV if you picked a day and just waited.

Oh, and allow me to plug my own thread (in my signature). On the same Instant Queue page, you can see when movies will BECOME available on Instant. Add them to my list by going to the thread linked in my sig. Need some member support to make the list bigger.
