lds.org video channel

Fri Jun 25, 2010 1:21 pm

I put together a channel that allows the Roku to access videos from lds.org podcasts and videos pages. This is really a proof of concept and a hobby project, but it does work and I'm interested to see if it works for more people than just me.

The private channel code is TMLJW. Here's how to add a private channel: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=26446

Give it a try and let me know how it goes for you.

Works for me too and I've added it to the database of private channels.

Is there any way we can get live conference video streams once the next General Conference comes along?

zonazag: I doubt I will be able to do live streams, unfortunately. I don't see anywhere that I can figure out the location and format of the live stream now, which means I would have to figure it out in the middle of conference while it was live.

Village Idiot: It's definitely niche content, but that's the beauty of the internet, isn't it? The long tail.

I agree. I'm jealous that my own religion hasn't created one.
You really did a great job on it.
And yes i did add it to look at it. Nicely done.
What surprises me is that the Channel store has two gay channels and no religion channels.
But at least you can create anything you want.
I wish you the best of luck with your channel.

Just "grabbed" this channel and it works great! Thanks man! The only glitch I saw was for us the World Reports kept dropping the sound, but other than that it is great.

On a side note. NoWhereMan has a PodTv channel with a Religion "sub channel" which has some great LDS content http://www.thenowhereman.com/roku/. You should look at where he's pulling this from and incorporate it into your channel.

Also there has been alot of interest in this sort of thing: http://tech.lds.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4130

I would also be interested in a "Mormon Channel" channel which is similar to the the Iphone Mormon channel which would just audio stream their content over the Roku box.

I noticed that the October 2010 General Conference talks were there, but not in their own "tab"; just as the most recent files.

BYUtv.org plays Conference. It would be great if there were a way to incorporate the stream in this channel!

They are creating a app for the ipad which will allow for streaming of the byu channel and will also make it possible to create a roku channel with streaming byu channel content. But it won't be out until sometime in 2011.

I've looked all over the byutv.org site to try to find the video stream in a format that the Roku will play - but no luck. If they do format the video for the iPad, which usually means mp4, that would be the format we need to get it onto the Roku.

jribble... have you checked out the LDS "streams" on NoWhereMan's PODtv channel? There's alot of videos there that would make an awesome addition to your channel.

When I last looked at the podtv channel it seemed like all of the lds stuff was audio, while I was only interested in video. I'll take another look.

It looks like there's a stream available now, but I couldn't find anything either.
