Justin.tv?

Thu Sep 16, 2010 1:06 pm

I don't use it, but just saw this:

Justin.tv Brings Live Video Streaming to the iPhone and It Rocks

I guess that means these are iphone compatible formats -- so they'd probably work on the Roku?

Interesting. I've used this periodically for soccer.

Unless I am mis-reading this, it's not that you can watch videos from justin.tv on your iPhone, but that you can broadcast videos to jutin.tv's site from your iPhone.

Actually, the app lets you record and watch. I think they just added the ability to broadcast in this latest update.

Yep, the ability to watch came earlier this year. This is the ability to broadcast to the audience.

Not to hijack the thread, but the 'Create a Roku channel' suggestion on the justin.tv developers forums is currently the 16th highest requested feature out of hundreds.

If you haven't yet, please take a moment to register and vote. The app has hit the iphone and the android, so why not Roku?

I'll look into this. If the video is in a Roku compatible format, then it shouldn't take much effort to knock out something quick and dirty.

Count me in as someone that woudl test. I tried looking for streaming urls for justin.tv before when they released their iphone app. Unfortunately I couldn't locate anything that was compatible. I don't have an iphone so that made it difficult to track down the exact urls the iphone is using.

nice. an official JTV channel would be worthless as they would probably not allow all the copyright infringement, but a private JTV channel.... that excites me. non stop sitcoms. the first 5 minutes of NFL games. plus random movie channels. sometimes i just wanna watch what's on, not flip through netflix or amazon having to make decisions. don't get me wrong, netflix, pandora and amazon will still be 95% of what i use on roku. right now it's about 99.7%.

Won't work on a private channel either then. The developer must have rights to the content. Here's the official word from RokuPatrick:

If I'm reading it correctly, the Justin.TV API documentation gives you (the developer) those rights: http://www.justin.tv/p/api
