Just updated to 2.8

I'm not sure how long it will last but I just checked for an update and my roku got updated to 2.8. :D

Anyone requesting the update manually should always get the new build (no restriction.)
That is unless we stop all additional updates because we discover an unexpected concern, and that does happen happen from time to time during a release.

But as of now the plan is to not close the update to manual requests (Settings>Player Info>Check for update.) We are running a limited number of updates to players doing automatic updates as we normally do as a precautionary measure, but this shouldn't affect someone requesting the software manually.

I should also note that if you have a NETGEAR branded Roku player, you will not be able to receive the update today. Right now the release is only to Roku direct sold players. We hope to allow release to those players ASAP.
UPDATE: Software has been released to all NETGEAR branded players. You may now download the update.

Hulu Plus is not yet activated. That will come as a channel update and not as part of the player software release,.

One minor annoying bug is that sometimes when you click on a channel in the new channel store it will double click it even though it was only clicked on once and back you out and take you to that channel on the main menu. Particularly with amazon. Anyone else having this issue? Assuming amazon is in your channel lineup.

i havent gotten the update yet :( will it come automatically or do i have to go to settings and update manually?

It will come automatically (sooner or later) but you can always get it sooner by doing a manual update. :D

The assumption on here was that Hulu Plus was gonna be released possibly around the same time as this update. I wonder if this maybe still be true. I love the new interface. The clock is really handy now because I don't have to use the screensaver anymore. One suggestion though. Since our Roku is attached to our online Roku account, how hard would it be to be able to add private channels from our Roku box instead of on the website? Maybe like add some security features in the settings menu for if we don't want anyone adding any private channels or something.
If it doesn't work, keep beating it with the hammer till it does.

pardon my possible stupidity, but how do i manually update the box? all I can see is check for updates in player info
