Hi Fofer(same fofer from the tivocommunity forums, right?)! Definitely not dead :), I'm actually hard at work on a much improved version. I'll see if I can get a newer test release up into google code and on apps4tv sometime tomorrow or sunday.

Any updates? I keep checking. I use this virtual remote every day. I'd love that prettier version, please.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! I've got the next couple of days off, and I've made it a personal goal to get a release out before I go back to work Monday.

Could I ask for a couple of interested people to be beta testers? If you're interested, PM me please. I will be on the road the rest of the evening, but I'll get in touch with you tomorrow to let you know the beta address.

i love Remoku ...
use it all of the time, esp to reset/dump the core when it freezes in Hulu +.
am wondering if you might be able to add a custom macro that would jump 2-3 min ahead ...
or even some programmable amount ...
for ease of FF through the commercials when watching MLB?
what think ye?
thanks.

My job has been taking up [strike]a lot[/strike] all of my free time lately, so first off, sorry to everyone for the total lack of updates. It should be possible to program in a customisable amount of skip ahead time once I've finished writing the custom macros functionality. I'm not an MLB channel user, so I'm not familiar with it, but other channels do not always necessarily let you skip commercials. IIRC, most will let you seek to an arbitrary point in the video, then force you watch any commercial breaks that were skipped between your starting point and the destination point, before letting you see the actual video. How does it work with MLB? Are they just part of the live video stream, shown during breaks in the game action? Just making sure I understand the problem.

/edit: Things should get much better for my free time in two weeks or so..Hopefully I'll be able to get a few solid releases out over the summer..I'm aiming for smaller and thus more frequent updates.

in MLB ...
there are no commercials that one is required to watch ...
either on their Roku feed or the feed to the PC.
what you have is a splash screen and message, "commercial in progress"
for the duration of what would be commercials.
so ... on the PC, one can click on the next inning to skip it ...
but on Roku, one must either FF thru it ... 2 or 3 minutes ...
you never know, as there is nothing to see but the splash screen ...
or back out and go thru the sequence of choosing 'skip to inning' ...
and then scrolling down to whatever inning you wish to see.
goes like this:
click once to back out to the selection menu ...
click again to choose which feed to watch ...
click twice to get down to select 'jump to inning' ...
and then however many clicks to scroll down to the appropriate inning.
it's a pain in the behind.

as i have said elsewhere ...
this is the main reason i stream using the PC rather than Roku.
it's a pain in the butt ...
and even the FF is a guess as to when the action will return.
i usually just shoot for 2 min so i don't overshoot ...
and then wait.
so it seems to me that all that would be needed [but what do i know?] ;)
is to have a macro that would jump ahead 2 minutes or so at the click of
ONE button, rather than having to jump thru who knows how many hoops.

btw ...
there are 'free games of the day' at times at
http://mlb.mlb.com/mediacenter/
where using the PC, you might get a better feel for how those
commercial splash screens work.
to use the Roku, you would likely have to install the channel
and likely have an account. maybe. ;)

Can this be used to control the Roku from the Mac for music only without using a television?

Control, yes.

See what you are doing , no.

To effectively control a Roku it must be connected to a display device of some kind so you can see the results of key presses.
