Firmware update v2.9 build 1553

Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:51 pm

Model N1011 - XR
Currently on v2.9 build 1529.
Checked for update tonight and see that build 1553 is available.
Has anyone loaded it? What does it fix or upgrade?

I'm predicting it will dramatically increase the number of people saying that Netflix CDN issues are related to the upgrade, when really they have nothing to do with it.

Roku does seem to have uncanny timing with their firmware updates. I'm surprised they didn't release it before/during the Netflix issues yesterday, just to keep it interesting. :P

Goes without saying.

I notice in the SETTINGS when I check my network wireless strength, there is now something additional listed "MODE". never seen that before and have no clue what it means but it says my mode is "1"

I think the only official comment from Roku about v2.9 build 1529, was to state that it was
the current version offered. A typo referred to 1592 started a chain of questions about it.

Seems unlikely, as the roku doesn't have an 802.11a radio.

The PS3 uses a similar code

1- direct to the internet (good)
2- from a router (good assuming the firewalls are set properly)
3- double nat (two routers or dsl with an unbridged modem) which will break many game applications (not good, but usually works)

That can't be right however since my Roku is on a router. So if the Roku uses NAT then 1 means a single nat, but possibly with a private IP hence 1 would be good and 2 would be bad. Again that's just a guess. Can someone on DSL check to see their mode? Anyone see mode 2 at all? Mode 0?

Upgraded to build 1553, everything seems to be working fine. Don't see any improvements. Didn't notice that the ads were clickable but the build must have been for something more significant than that, yes?
