Is Roku 2 now stable?

Sat Nov 05, 2011 9:16 pm

I know when Roku 2 first come out, there were a lot of complaints and it didnt seem very stable. Now that there have been some firmware revisions, is it as stable as the earlier models are?

The people who complain NEVER think it (or anything) is "stable". They're naysayers and pessimists.

I've had a Roku2 since they came out, and I love it. I haven't had any of the problems others did, and even those issues have largely been fixed for those who had them.

I'll be the one from the other side. I think it's still shaking out.

I should say that I have never experienced any lockups or connectivity problems that upon investigation were not the fault of factors other than the box. The problems being reported post firmware-update are ones that I (luckily) have not experienced. The Roku 2 unit has been very enjoyable to use.

No problems with my Roku 2 XD. I use a wireless connection to my router and my download speed from my ISP is just 1.5Mbs.

I was disappointed when subtitles on Netflix didn't work as advertised, however Roku/Flix have resolved the issue.

Me 3...other then normal problem or glitch that many of us have, I honestly have had none. Have a older first edition and recently got a 2XS. Considering the amount of Rokus out there, I would think a pretty good track record.

Except for the issues from Neulion with the NHL channel, the Roku2 XS has been rock solid. Movies on Crackle, EpixHD and others are brilliant in 1080p with exceptional sound. My box uses ethernet to the router and a cable modem connection. The box also took the last firmware update on it's own and the selection of public and private channels is incredible.

Well worth the $99 I paid for it at Target.

Interesting comment considering Crackle offers streams in only 360p or 480p and Epix HD offers streams in 720p.

True, but my Roku2 XS is set in 1080p which I thought would be of interest to the OP...

Thanks for the feedback. I am thinking about getting an LT when they come out. I don't really need the features of the higher end models. I don't think Netflix is streaming 1080p yet.

A blueray player I recently purchased includes Netflix streaming, but it is a way more crude than my Roku box I have upstairs.

Actually, on the R2 1080p capable models, they do.

The only problem I have with my Roku2 XS is that Hulu+ is a little buggier on it than with my Roku 1 XDS. Other than that, it's quicker, it's prettier, and it has Angry Birds :D.
Yeah, I got some Rokus.
