Inaccurately :) Although I'm hoping to include the testing code with the next beta update, see below.

Heads up Remoku users! I'm moving the current Beta channel build (Build date: February 28, 2012 12:00:00 PM) to Stable sometime in the next 48hrs(hopefully, if my work schedule allows) to pave the way for a new Beta. Along with the new Stable build will also be a minor update to the firefox extension, to accommodate slight changes to the height and width of the remote window. The firefox extension has to go through mozilla's approval process before it will be public, so it may lag a few days. The remote should still be usable, you'll just have some scroll bars showing until the extension is updated.

Additionally, I'll be introducing one more channel, tentatively referred to as 'Previous', which will be the location of the previous stable channel whenever there is an update. This is to provide an 'escape hatch' if something broken makes it through beta testing to stable. You'll be able to hit a link like http://remoku.tv/prev (not up yet) and get a prior version of the stable channel.

Remoku

Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:06 pm

Remoku has been updated: the Beta has been graduated to Stable, and the Dev build (which I've been using for about a week) has been graduated to Beta. As promised, I've also set up the Previous channel, in case there are any issues with Stable. I've also submitted new addons for Firefox, Chrome and Opera. The Chrome extension is live, while Firefox and Opera are both waiting on approval.

New features:
  • Stable - Name your Roku
  • Stable - Change between Rokus by clicking on the name at the bottom of the remote
  • Stable - New icon in text entry area
  • Beta - Numerous UI/UX improvements
  • Beta - Favorites (requires an app id, under development, but for now visit http://YourRokuIP:8060/query/apps to find your app ids)
  • Beta - Choose your own Background/Foreground colors
  • Beta - Roku 'Secret Screen' macro
  • The add-ons have all been updated to account for the slight increase in remote area size. Also, in any of the browsers, you can right-click the Remoku icon to access a preference to change the release channel between stable, beta, dev, and previous.
Note: The new beta will probably get several updates over the next week or so. I've got a number of half-baked ideas that will need feedback soon :). Fresh docs for everything coming to the help site in the next few days. Feedback on any/everything welcome!

Cheers!

excellent!
the app id page http://yourrokuip:8060/query/apps doesn't load for me.
so i just kinda guess at numbers, but i find no order to them.
also ... is there, or will there be some info on how to make a macro?
i wanted to add one to simply do a reset, without having to dump the core ...
just 'cause i'm lazy and would rather click then get up to unplug/plug in
the Roku. [this prior to trying to watch Hulu+ without it freezing].
back and foreground color works ... but i'm sticking with the defaults.
love the text input. thank you, thank you, thank you.

ah ... using the new beta ...
noticed that the Firefox Icon still takes me to the stable version.
understandable, but it did fake me out. got the beta bookmarked now.

thanks again.

Firefox plugin is lagging behind due to some issues Mozilla raised with it related to releasing memory. I haven't had time to look into it yet, but I'm not doing anything very fancy in the extension code, and so will hopefully be able to resolve it once I find the time to sit down with the code and debug.

Macros and play timer will be available sooner than later, I had several opportunities for side jobs the past couple of weeks that took up a lot of my free time. I'm hoping to get a few hours in this weekend and get the firefox extension sorted, as well as do some more with the beta.

another question about the Beta
using the 'show favorites', i have code 12 for Netflix and 2016 gives me Crackle.
i can't seem to find a number for Hulu or Amazon.
any hints on how to figure them out?
i remember trying to follow a link on your help page to those codes but it
wouldn't load. now i can't find it. ;)

again i use Remoku a lot ...
works esp well for dumping the core on a hulu freeze.
thanks

You can access the app ids at http://YOUR_ROKU_IP:8060/query/apps (substituting in your own roku address, of course). If you've named your Roku in Remoku, just clear the name field and the address will show up again. You should get a page of xml like this:

<apps>
<app id="5127" version="1.0.32">Roku Spotlight</app>
<app id="11" version="2.7.10">Roku Channel Store</app>
<app id="12" version="3.1.2106">Netflix</app>
<app id="2285" version="2.1.1">Hulu Plus</app>
...
</apps>
You'll want to copy everything inside the id tag, some ids are not simple integers, and look like this: "1418_12a0" (that's NowhereTV, btw).

I wouldn't recommend putting the Roku in the router DMZ. Is there a pc or mac available on the same network? You could remote connect (windows remote desktop, vnc, or gotomypc) into that, then use remoku.

remoku.tv/beta
New beta version, new features:
  • Lots of little UI improvements
  • Favorite channels
  • Custom Macros!
Preliminary Macro command reference is available under the goodies topic at http://help.remoku.tv and a number of examples are provided for you in the app already.

I'm interested in hearing about people's experiences with the new beta. Please give it a spin and let me know your results. My immediate goal is to get this beta pushed to stable within the next 7 days, so please bang on it and let me know about broken stuff asap. Missing feature reports are welcome too, but I'm only giving high-priority to major beta breakage right now. After this beta is made stable, I'll return to new feature work. I've been using it a lot this past week, so hopefully I've caught the worst of the bugs.

Note: I've written the macro functionality such that it includes loops and execution pauses. This should let interested users script up their own playtimers, but it might still need some tweaking/polishing. Give it a whirl and please share the macros if they work well for you!

Re: Remoku (new beta June 24, 2012)

Mon Jun 25, 2012 5:31 pm

i'm lost.
how does one add the macro?
example ...
say i want to try:
{"keydown":"Fwd"},{"pause":"00:05"},{"keyup":"Fwd"}
to simulate holding down the ">>" key for 5 seconds in an attempt
to FF through, say a 2 min commercial on MLB.
[not sure this would even do what i want]
how do i enter that info?
i've tried clicking on the box and pasting it in ...
then "add macro" ...
but i don't see that it does anything.
pressing on the Custom Macros tab/arrow doesn't show
me anything either.
if i then go to the Fwd button, nothing different happens
than with a normal press.

also ...
are we supposed to be able to add a number of macros
and call them up by name?

like i said ... i'm stuck.

Are you looking at the beta channel (remoku.tv/beta)? It sounds like you may be trying to use the stable channel (plain remoku.tv), which has non-functional custom macros(I should not have released with those buttons visible :( ). The beta build date is June 24, 2012 10:00:00PM. In that build, the macros have been moved to the top of Goodies, and you should see a menu with these items by default: Email, Home, Developer Screen, Dump Core, Secret Screen, Bit Rate Override, Channels Info, and RepeatPlayWait. Next to the menu is the Run button. Below those is a text field for naming a Macro, with add and remove buttons, and below that line is a larger text area for the macro itself. If you want to add the macro below, you'll need to change the word "pause" to "wait". Paste that into the large field and give it a name in the small field and click add. That should save the macro to the saved settings and put it at the bottom of the menu. From there you can call it up from the menu and hit run.

Also, it sounds like this might be closer to the macro you're looking for:
{"keypress":"Fwd"},{"wait":"00:05"},{"keypress":"Play"}
The Roku usually continues to ff/rev after a release of either of those buttons, until Play is pressed. I don't use MLB, but assume it's the same there as in the channels that I do frequently use. You may even want to add in a second or third Fwd keypress to increase the transport speed, and/or play with the wait time to get the timing right. It'll take some tweaking, I imagine, to find the right settings for MLB, and it will probably vary from one provider, like MLB, to the next, like Hulu or Crackle.

Let me know if that isn't your experience. I'm hoping that it's just the wrong build, because if not, things are majorly broken for you from the sound of it =)

"Are you looking at the beta channel (remoku.tv/beta)?"

i was ...
but still had the previous build.
seems it was stuck in firefox's cache.
cleared it and now we are cooking.

no problem naming [Jump] and adding:
{"keypress","Fwd"},{"wait":"00:05"},{"keypress":"Play"}

however, i don't seem to be able to get it to end up in the menu.
will continue to play with it.

If it's stuck in Firefox's cache, try this:
Go to Firefox's Options>Advanced>Offline Web Content and User Data and you should see remoku.tv listed as an entry you can select that and hit remove, or hit 'Clear Now' to wipe out all cached sites. Note in that window there are two 'Clear Now' buttons. One for the regular cache and one for the 'application cache' that enables offline use. It's important to clear the Remoku.tv application cache in this case.

Good luck!

no matter what i do ...
i can't get it to add the macro to the menu.

also ...
if i remove roku.tv from the offline cache ...
how is it ever going to recognize my settings?
seems now i have to rescan every time i start a session.
and of course, reenter any of my channel settings, etc.
