Changed routers; now Roku won't connect

Sun Jan 15, 2012 8:38 pm

We've been streaming using a Roku XDS box and ethernet cable via an Actiontec DSL gateway 54 Mbps modem/router for the last year. Starting to have more and more connection and quality problems and decided it was time to upgrade, so purchased a new Actiontec Wireless N DSL modem/router. Internet and wireless up and running fine for everything else in the house, but now we can't get the 3rd green dot to connect our Roku. Spent an hour with live Roku chat this afternoon to no avail. Tried running it wired and wireless. Shut down the box and rebooted. Anyone have any thoughts?

Since you say you just bought a new router, are you using the default SSID? It should be changed to signify your personal home network. Check and re-check all your wireless settings and be sure your router is running the latest firmware. Also, I have noticed many times you can successfully connect just from simply rebooting the box rather than following the on screen prompts. Chime back in and let us know if you get connected or not.....there is a wealth of very knowledgeable people here on these boards.... 8)

Try rebooting your entire network. If it's a modem+router combination device, power it down along with the Roku(doesn't matter which one you turn off first). Then after 2 minutes, power on the modem+router first, wait for all the lights to pop up then turn on the roku.
If it still can't connect to the internet, you may want to change the DNS on your router. The link roku5 provided should provide you a lot of information. :)

You may find success by briefly disabling your firewall and attempting to connect.
