i purchased a $25 package in feb that would allow me to see the 2011 archived games
plus 2012 spring training. seeing that time has now arrived, i figured i'd watch a few
on Roku. Sorry ... all i get is "2012 Coming Soon!".
yeah ... well it's March 2012 and NOW is when it's happening.
when can we expect Roku to get the channel up and running?
before opening day?

i WAS going to buy the season.
guess what? i can't until i activate my Roku.
guess what?
i can't ... cause it's "Coming Soon".

as long as the Roku channel is "Coming Soon" ...
i have no way to get an activation code to link to my subscription.

1) Roku never said that the spring training games would be available on the device. In fact spring training has not been available the past few seasons on the Roku.

2) You can buy the season without linking your Roku, I have and am watching spring training games on the computer (hooked up to the tv via hdmi) and the Kindle Fire.

3) Roku has said the channel will be up and running by opening day if not a few days earlier.

but ... this isn't about PC's ... this is about Roku and MLB.

watch spring training on the Roku because that is what I [and i think many others] were
led to believe.

Roku and MLB have not properly informed the customer of the in's and out's ...
you have to find out what you are not getting after the fact.
It's still like pulling teeth to get a straight answer from either of them.

I don't know how you were led to believe that you would be able to watch spring training games on the Roku. I have never seen any ads or promos saying that they would be available on the Roku device.

My best suggestion would be to apply to be in the MLB.TV beta test, here is the latest update from yesterday:

Opening day of the 2012 MLB season is fast approaching and a new MLBTV channel will be coming to the Roku player. The 2012 channel is currently scheduled for release on opening day, however during spring training, Roku and MLBTV will be running a beta program prior to release.

If you have purchased a 2012 MLBTV premium package and are interested in participating in a private beta program for the Roku MLBTV channel, just e-mail the follow information to beta20@roku.com:

First, last name
Roku forum screen name (we require this for any beta participation)
Your Roku player 12 digit serial number
If you are already in an active Roku beta program, please mention this

No prior beta experience is necessary.

UPDATE 3/5/12: Please note that we are receiving numerous e-mails that contain incomplete information. If you do not send the full info listed above, you will not be admitted to the beta program, and due to the volume of requests, we are not responding to e-mails with incomplete data.

We anticipate having a beta channel ready for testing this Wednesday, March 7. As a result, we will stop taking e-mail submissions as of 12 noon PST on Wednesday.

as were a lot of other Roku users.
now it might not have been Roku ...
but MLBtv sure put it out there that these games were viewable
if one had a Premium subscription. If Roku knew differently ...
they certainly did not make that info available to us here on

We went through the same thing last year with a few people. Could you tell us where you got the information that the Spring training games would be available on your Roku? Maybe that source can be contacted so that this type of misinformation is not spread around any further.

I think it's pretty easy to infer that you could watch it on Roku. It says "Watch over 150 LIVE Spring Training Games on your Mac, PC and favorite mobile and connected devices." That coupled with the fact that normally one watches games on one's favorite device, a Roku, leads one to infer that one could watch those 150 spring training games on Roku. Do they say so explicitly? No, but it's certainly a pretty understandable mistake to make, and one that could easily be clarified with some rather obvious wording as clearly as they tell you what you can watch.

Can someone explain why the Roku has fewer features than other viewing devices for MLB TV? I watched a game on my friend's internet-enabled TV last year, and it was a much more advanced interface. Is it a memory issue with the Roku (if so, why?)? Or is it just that no one is putting in the time to create all the available features on Roku?

The MLB is probably unwilling to put in the time to create the advanced interface within the Roku's open SDK. The channel is very clearly "stock" SDK (unlike Hulu, witch is clearly custom). It's too bad - I'd love the advanced features.

If that's the case then the OP should be complaining to MLB.TV, not criticizing roku.

Although Roku works closely with their partners, it is up to the channel developer (in this case, MLB.TV) to make such things known. Nowhere, to my knowledge, has it ever been stated that "150 spring training games" would be available on the Roku. Regardless, I will add this into my weekly report, as feedback. It eventually finds its way into the hands of the channel developers.
