I don't have a Mac, but the Channel Directory was what I was looking for. I didn't think of that black chevron as an icon to select. Wow, lots of stuff in there.

There are some additional plugins that are only available to add from the desktop client, but are available to the Roku once added... so it may be worth adding the desktop client, if you're interested in even more options.

I love plex now that it actually works. Just wish the darn thing didn't steal all the sound out of the computer the server is running on so it'd be possible to do other stuff while watching it....

You need a faster computer. It hardly dents mine.

I just set up a new i7 machine. May be time to give Plex a try...

I'm not sure who you were responding to, but the issue mastermesh stated has nothing to do with the speed of his computer. it has to do with the fact that for Flash and Silverlight channels Plex captures all system sounds. So if you are using your computer at the same time, any audio your computer produces will be streamed to your Roku. I not 100% certain of all of the details, but basically Plex has no way of isolating the sounds coming out of the Flash/Silverlight players, so it simply captures everything from the system.

Oh I see, I thought you meant sound was stuttering or something like that. Hmm...add that to the list of bugs. The unmentionable transcoder does not have this issue.

This issue is minor since you can work around it by just not playing other stuff with sound when watching something... but it's still annoying if you want to do something like play a game or something because that overlayed sound on some games is a lot louder than the movie sounds in whatever you playing in the plex on the roku... Also, there's a really annoying delay to it... so play something like bejeweled on facebook and that annoying sound from the game will be all over the tv's speakers, and even if you stop playing it'll still go on and on for another 20-30 seconds depending on how long the lag time is.

I've gone to playing games with the sound shut off or just not playing them when using plex... would be really annoying if you needed to do something important with audio like video editing, dubbing/remixing mp3s or something like that.

And yes, my computer is plenty fast too... ;)

I gotta get me a faster one :( -- Did ya build the i7, kc or buy it ready to go? I used to think that a faster cpu (say 3.5 gig as compared to 2.5 gig )meant a better faster box but with multi cores I am not so sure any more....

Plex seems to work well with my quadcore AMD Phenom 2 and 8 gigs of ram,no lags or choppiness. That being said it still seems"buggy" and my grandchildren greatly prefer using xbmc with the htpc.It does not do as good of a job streaming my movies to the Roku as my current solution of the free PO channel for which I never bother to convert anything,it does it for me with no hiccups on at least a dual core machine.I was wondering why Plex would be acceptable to Roku but not PO ,then I noticed there is no Hulu addon in Plex anymore?Maybe this was done to get it added to Roku?If so,maybe PO couldmake a Roku acceptable version too.

When I built my HTPC I went with the AMD quad core for the price, transcoding and other such operations can really slow down with less than quad.I did unlock it to 6 but it seemed unneeded so I put it back.8 gigs of ram seems to be more than I would ever need for an htpc, but DDR3 ram is really cheap and I may max it out at 16.The important thing if you build an htpc for me is getting a motherboard with HDMI so you don't need to worry about a graphics card, freeing up those slots for tv tuners ,etc. That being said,I do use a graphics card anyway because my DD gave me one for Xmas. :D Building a computer is pretty easy,I built my first the end of Dec and 3 more since. :D

I don't have a before experience with Plex, but I was using "the server that shall not be named (PO)" on on a dual core 2 ghz machine and it brought that machine to its knees. Now that I have a cheap 3.4 ghz i7 with 8GB memory I can pull two separate streams from the computer in the background without it affecting what I'm doing on the computer.

While I had no problems with PO on a dual core,it was only running one stream at a time. With a quad core,I watch a stream with the Roku,DH watches a movie on the HTPc,and my grandkids can watch a movie on their pc from the home network, all with no problems.I think the 8 gigs of ram is an important component of this.

yep... more ram and cpu power is a good thing for this sort of stuff. On my old laptop, I could never use playon much since it maxed out the ram and cpu usage in no time flat. Newer computer has no problem with playon, plex, xmbc, and/or video games at the same time. Only got kicked out of entropia one time while using plex on tv at the same time - Entropia uses Cryengine 2, so it's pretty much a resource hog at times, especially if I have the grahics settings on high, lol.

I run an 17 2600 @ 4 GHz with 16Gigs of RAM so I barely notice it running. At the beginning of a stream one core will spike about 30%.
