No plans for new Netflix UI, Profiles or Kids on other Rokus

Sat Jul 05, 2014 11:22 am

This should be front and center. From this post:

RokuShawnS wrote:
Q: Which Roku players get the updated Netflix experience that includes “Profiles” and “Just for Kids”?
A: The Roku 3 and Roku Streaming Stick (HDMI version).

Q: Will other Roku players receive the updated Netflix experience that includes “Profiles” and “Just for Kids”?
A: There are no plans at this time to extend the updated Netflix experience that includes “Profiles” and “Just for Kids” to other Roku players.

I don't have any further information on this, guys. Again, my apologies.

C. Shawn Smith

BTW, for a while now they call the children's UI simply "Netflix Kids".

This doesn't surprise me at all, it's been almost a year since the profiles became available and I still can't get them on my Roku HD box. But I can access my profile on any other device including crappy blu ray player software that is so slow and old. I don't even care about the full new netflix app, the old one is fine. I just want the option to pop up to switch profiles when I start the app. That's it! I don't see why this is such a big deal.

Yeah--profiles were introduced on August 1st last year, coming up on its first anniversary. You'd think that if they weren't going to introduce the new version of the channel on the other 2nd and 3rd gen products, they might add them to the old UI, but we're not being told that that's going to happen either.

I've got 12 or 14 Netflix playing devices and besides my Roku 2XS, only the two oldest don't have profile support (a TiVo Series3 and a Panasonic DMP-BDT110). Even the Netflix player apps on my Android devices have Profiles.

C'est la vie. Time to upgrade to the Roku 3, it's def worth the upgrade.

I bought a Streaming Stick recently for my new [smaller/second] TV, to have an "all-in-one" package; this is when I first encountered the new Netflix UI. The new UI is why I don't use Netflix with the Streaming Stick. The new UI is why I haven't purchased a Roku 3. If they ever do implement it for my 2XS, then I may drop Netflix entirely. I really hate everything about it.

I have a Roku 3 and it's currently my primary Netflix device, but I'd like to have Netflix profiles on my 2XS as well.

I am not willing to offer up my one and only Roku in an experiment to see if the New Netflix Experience bricks it.

Roku's track record with the words 'Roll Back' are pretty much self explanatory.

Well that's crap considering last year we were told it would be coming "early this year". I've been using roku since the first model came out and bought another roku 2 last year after reading it would get the new interface this year. Guess I wasted my money. Once FireTV gets HBO GO I'll be switching.

True, Netflix said it. But I have no idea if it's all on Netflix or a collaborative effort between them and Roku. For example the latest Roku firmware drastically speeds up the loading of the Netflix channel on Roku Stick, but the channel (maintained by Netflix) itself wasn't updated. So that's an example of Roku changing something on their end to fix Netflix.

Yeah this was a real bummer for me. Basically waiting for Amazon to add two channels and then I'll move to the fire. It's too bad my 2 2xs units have no resale value due to the reboot issue, they are basically trash after they get replaced.

On the plus side my Roku 2 devices don't have the reboot problem. So I have that going for me. But yeah probably not worth anything resale wise. Be nice if they would swap out Roku 2 devices for the HDMI stick since that has the new Netflix interface that we were supposed to get months ago...

If Netflix on the Roku 2 could be powered by whining, it would have more than enough processing power from this forum alone...

I dont think it's out of line for customers to be disappointed when they are told they won't be getting something they were told would be arriving months ago. I guess you do.
