hmm odd ... wondering if unplugging/moving the unit had more to do with it than Samsung vs Sony

Don't think so because when I hooked it back up to the Samsung the same problem occurred as before!

Ok, I think I've tracked it down to the IR Repeater I'm using. I have a Sanus ELM 501. When I unplug it the ROKU works fine as long as I have line of sight to the ROKU's IR receiver. If I plug the IR repeater back in to turn it on, then the problem recurs. So its something about the IR repeater that's affecting the ROKU. Any ideas on this? Thanks.

Its putting out IR junk signals that are bombarding IR of the roku. find an old x10 key fob and RF transceiver set, use it to turn on & off the IR repeater. You use the IR repeater to control it from different room? Leave it on when afar, when close turn off the x10 it like unplugging from the wall.

Well I think I finally fixed it. I tried a lot of different positions with the emitter, ie. the IR in front of the ROKU, et al, and moved it up and away a few inches and stuck it to the backside of the cabinet door. Now it seems to be working as it should. I never had that problem with any other device I was controlling with the IR repeater, so I guess the ROKU must be particularly sensitive or something. I'm having the problem now with my Harmony TOUCH REMOTE-Do you know what its IR frequency range in KHz is?
