Roku 2 XS (3100X) running new Ver. 7.9037 .... any issues?

Tue Dec 01, 2015 4:45 pm

I thought it might be a useful idea to create topics for new OS issues for particular hardware. I see postings concerning new software issues for various boxes spread among multiple threads. This approach might make more sense.

I am getting the very same symptoms that other 3100X owners are describing in other threads about ver. 7. My 2 XS just did the same lockup again at the home screen when just trying to navigate the channel tiles. It seems to happen when the unit has been in standby for a lengthy time, which is more common for me now that the Roku is no longer my primary streamer of choice.

Got home this evening and my 3100X is frozen. Can't navigate to anywhere to do anything.

So it must have the new hotness!

Progress, schmogress.

Aaand we're back. Hard reset, and Pandora playing fine, will look into the other channels to see if this is consistent.

Since my Roku 2 XS got this OS 7 update, I've been seeing issues like -

Freezing.... more prevalent when coming out of the standby mode.
Slow response while loading channels, listing etc. I guess it maybe impacting the channels performance.
Sometimes no HDMI audio when coming out the standby mode. The audio setting I've is "HDMI - Auto detect". The workaround is switch the TV Input back on again.

This is not an issue but just a new change seen ---
The HDMI CEC trade name changes during boot up from "BCM11130" to "Videocore". Earlier the name used to be "Roku XS 2".

As I've posted in other threads, my two Roku 2 XS's are both freezing at the main menu after sitting for awhile. I simply click to move to a channel, the cursor moves one time and then promptly freezes up. When hitting the remote at this point, the roku light blinks but nothing happens. The only thing that I can do to get it working again is unplug it and plug it back in. I hope Roku fixes this problem...fast! This, in my opinion, is not an acceptable feature. I have had to unplug each of my Rokus several times in the last week. I tried disabling the screen saver but that didn't make any difference.

I would be happy with the previous version being restored to the Roku 2 XS's since that version was VERY VERY stable.

Add me to the list. Mine hangs almost every day requiring a power cycle to get it back.

Add me to the list also.
I was excited to get OS 7 since I have a Roku 4 as well.
Whoops, be careful what you ask for.
I have 2 XS rokus running and they both lock up almost daily since the update.
If I could roll them back I would. I have run them both for 2 years and may have had 3 problems combined before. I have beat that this week alone.
Horrible update. Please patch or roll us back.

Same here, multiple freezes at main screen, add one today that was in the Amazon channel - it had been left there for quite some time (a day?) and upon waking it quickly froze up.

It rebooted, wife got back into the channel...she was then thrilled, THRILLED I say, to have to back out and tell it to connect to wifi. Again.

Exactly. The WAF on the Roku is abysmal. My family has zero tolerance for spontaneous reboots and even less for hangs.

Problems here too, as described in this thread viewtopic.php?f=28&t=90961

Is Roku working on this?

I don't know if this will help, and I don't know if this is the same condition that other people with 3100 series units are seeing; but if it has any value to the software dev folks ....... here is what I see.....
If the box has been at idle for a period of time and you start to make button presses in the home screen, it appears that the box is performing a double ACK to either BT or IR signals (indicated by a double jump response to any button press and the strange doubled up "duh dunk" and "bloop" sound effect). If you try to navigate during this condition, the box will eventually lock up in the home screen; requiring a power recycle. I had speculated earlier that maybe the new software is handling remote REQ's differently. In any case ... for what it's worth, that's my two cents worth.

Those of you experiencing this issue: Go into settings and under audio, set the menu volume to "off." QA is interested in knowing if this stops the freezing you're experiencing.
