Hi guys; i've just acquired a Roku 4 and i ticked the box in he settings for it to turn off after 30 minutes ,but every time i turn it on it won't turn on, i have to unplug and plug back in order for it to turn on and reboot,i wonder why an expensive so modern and sophisticated box compared to Roku 1,2,3 has this glitch, it's
not aceptable.

well being as the roku 1,2,and 3 do not have an option to turn them off ..... being a firmware issue I am sure that down deep in the Roku dungeons a dev is pouring over code to squash this bug ... it is the weekend though ... I just hope they don't forget to feed him

Shouldn't an issue like this been resolved in beta testing?

IMHO it should have been .... that said ( and I have been in the beta program for years ) sometimes firmware is pushed with known bugs for other reasons ( I did not beta test the Roku 4 ) but lets assume that the power on bug folks are seeing ( which for now the work around is to set the unit to be always on) was introduced in a fix for a more serious bug ( not saying that it did happen this way but that it could have been the way it happened).... were Roku my company I would work hard to ensure that every new device released was 100% bug free and worked flawlessly in all conditions .... to be honest though "MY" Roku would probably have went down in flames because I would still be tweaking the first generation product and Apple would have the majority of Roku's piece of the streamer market pie

The internet has made developers lazy and publishers greedy.

That, and every large software product, everywhere, has always had some bugs on release. 100 beta testers have nothing on 100,000 new users.

Question is can anyone else duplicate this scenario? That would provide some info if so...

All i know maybe many other receivers always have this or that bug,But i have to say this is the first receiver that i come across that has such bug,this is primitive bug,no other receiver or from any provider that i know has this kinda bug, you may have to reboot receivers once in awhile cause this is computer based software,but this is primitive as i said doesn't make any sense.
Also who ever wrote software for this box is delusional,why?who writes software for any piece of hardware that has a fan and writes software to have that fan running all the time when not in use,this is crazy and this is mocking customers,i guess this Roku people don't want Roku 4 to be a success.

This is kind of a known bug a lot of people are experiencing. I'm not one of them but I have other issues with Roku 4. The bug list is actually pretty long for Roku 4 at the moment. For now my Roku 3 is residing in the living room while R4 waits for an update.

this happens with me frequently as well.


I don't use my roku 4 very often, but of the 4 or 5 times I've used it, 3 or so I had to walk over and unplug and replug the power to get it to turn on.


definitely a problem.
