firmware 7.1 beginning slow rollout

Tue Apr 05, 2016 5:13 pm

Many changes,
A couple known bug fixes are:
Roku-4 and distorted audio.
Roku-2 and Roku-3 hang requiring reboot (UI Sounds helped to avoid this problem).
Roku-2 and Roku-3 fixes for non 1080p monitors.
This release is available for manual updates for 24 hours, so if you want to give it a try, please go to settings/system/sytem update and check for new firmware within the next 24 hours. The update window will close at that time as we evaluate the usage and performance of the new firmware in the field. Note that beta testing has already been completed.
If it's not available right now, please wait 30 minutes and try again, it is now starting rollout.

Before you ask, this release does NOT include any change to Dolby audio capabilities for the Roku-4.

Please post feedback to this thread.
Thanks all,
RokuDale

Hey Dale,

What is up with Pluto TV ? all my units are now on 7.1 -- the R3 and TV play full screen but the LTs and HD play 1/4 screen .. what is different in the way the units handle video that would cause this ?

I don't know anything about Pluto TV, but I'm forwarding your feedback to the managers about it now.

Not saying it is the issue but are not the LT and HD 720p only? If so maybe that is part of the problem.

Pluto TV worked as expected on my Roku 2 XD yesterday when I was running 7.0 b9044. After I updated to 7.1 tonight, I'm getting the 1/2 screen issue. My Roku HDMI Streaming Stick and Roku 3 work just fine on 7.1 though.

I'm also experiencing a bright light on my Roku 2 XD. Really bright. Kinda irritating. And, no, it wasn't like that before the update. It showed up at the same time as the 7.1 update. I'm kinda thinking they're related. And I'm kinda thinking it's a problem.

My Roku 3 doesn't experience it, only my older second generation Roku. And, that's the one on the secondary TV, in the bedroom. So now I have a bright light shining at night in the dark. Yes, I could put some tape over it or something, but if this is a software update issue, it's on Roku to fix, if Roku caused it.

I was not saying that the 7.1 update did not break Pluto I was just speculating on a reason. Maybe, if my speculation is correct then something in the way Pluto TV handles 720p could be the problem and that could lead to a fix more quickly.

My Roku 2 XD is running in 1080p mode. Switching it to 720p doesn't make a difference. Pluto TV is 1/2 screen in both modes.

regarding roku2 xs and roku-3 hanging. Please reenable UI sounds if you disabled them as a work around to prevent the hang.
thanks

Oh well. It was a guess. I feel about guesses about bugs a lot like Edison felt about failures in making an electric light bulb.

Oh, absolutely. You just keep trying and trying until something works.

It is possible this is a Pluto-TV app issue that the developer needs to address.

3400x MHL stick still broken 1080p output using 7.1. Only outputs 720p and lower. I have another post about this problem that since the previous update 1080p has been broken.
