Today my 2XS does nothing but constantly reboot, menu never comes up. Just reboot, reboot reboot reboot reboot.

Till today it's been just fine, and I didn't change anything or install any channels or even touch it.

The XS is basically unstable. Many people have zero problems and many others have major or minor problems and some, like me, have abandoned the XS completely. What pushes a given XS over the edge into instability is not known.

You might try a hardware factory reset (It cannot make things worse if you have already tried a power off/on cycle) To reset it press and hold the reset button while the power is applied for 30-40 seconds. The Roku will then reset and it will be as if it was just unboxed. (That is of course if it is not effectively dead)

All your channels will reinstall if you connect back to the same Roku account.

One other thing: could be the power supply. If you have another second-generation device -- or even a first-generation device -- the power supplies are interchangeable. The third-generation power supplies won't work with the older devices.

If you've had otherwise good success with the Roku 2 XS -- and, as Elijah_Baley said, many people have -- it may be worth picking up another power supply from Best Buy, Walmart, or somewhere that carries universal devices, and trying that. While the Roku 2 XS is an older device, if you're in the "working well" camp prior to this, it may extend your use a while longer.

My uneducated guess is the new firmware 7.1 made love to it and your 2XS is moonstruck now.

But it was a manual update that was pulled even before the 24 hour "try it out" period was over, right? Or did it actually get pushed to some automatically?

Which version of the software are you running? Did you do a manual software update this week?

Since you are caught in a loop, there is no way to tell what version you currently have (but a factory reset should erase any update*). However, it was said if you tried to add a new app you would get the update as well even after it was "pulled".

But, OP may know. And, if no manual update, we can rule out 7.1 as the cause. Or, if a manual update was done, then the reset you suggested would remove 7.1

7.1 installed itself uninvited on my RokuTV.
Saying this not to complain, i get a chance to try some of the new features^
Then the Co stopped rollout so i cannot invite it on my developer box.

(^) features both good and bad, incl. "kill WiFi"; this footnote OTOH is a drive-by-stab .
