Remote firmware bricked

Sun May 29, 2016 6:36 am

Hello,
I upgraded my Roku 3 Enhanced Remote to the latest firmware (I think it was 459 or 460) via the secret menu, and it is no longer able to pair with the Roku. I have tried all the standard methods, including new batteries, factory reset. Is there any way to revert the firmware on the remote?

you did a factory reset but when it came time to pair the remote it would not pair .... pressing and holding the pairing button for 10 seconds gets no response ? I take it that the factory reset now has you unable to connect to the internet?

Same thing here on one of my roku 3s. Roku really needs to get it together with their firmware. My 4 wont turn on without a power cycle and now this with one of my 3s. Fire is beginning to look better and better!

Is there a way to force a downgrade to the remote firmware?

If you remove the batteries from the remote factory reset the roku then reinstall the batteries and pair it should fix the issue

IF you have not yet done the factory reset and your roku is still hooked to the network you can use the android remote to change remote firmware

if you have an IR model ( box not stick) a universal remote ( 8 bucks at walmart ) will allow you to do the same thing ( an IR remote from another Roku will work too)

I hope this helps

So, why are people deciding to upgrade remote firmware via secret screens?

Probably because they can ...without even understanding what a design cycle is or what QA is about. These are the same people who complain when they root their phone and then boot an incompatible phone OS. Oh now they have a brick and the "evil" manufacture will not help them. Life is rough ..boo hoo.

There are shockingly many of them despite that they tend to get Darwin Awards or go blind due to staring at the sun.

Thanks for just kicking us while we are down....

Anyways, I'm guessing that when the Roku gets the next major firmware upgrade the 459 firmware will work and synch back up...

And yeah, enthusiasts will play with all sorts of options if available and I live with the consequences....

Glad to know thetick is a perfect person....

Although the way it was said was not very nice, it doesn't make it untrue.
