Do you really think there is a realistic hope that the 4 will transcode Plus to Standard? For me, that is the search for the Holy Grail and I've been on that search for at least 4 years now. I'm in the same boat. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find an alternative for those of us who want 4K. The 4K Amazon FireTV does not have optical out.

I received my 2014 Amazon Fire TV box today and if it wasn't brand new I'd be amazed. It does have the optical out and if you choose it you can output DD standard over optical. It works perfectly and the system even updated to include Alexa to the box and remote. I don't feel at all this the box has been abandoned. Very happy at this point to have it. I will keep my Roku 3 and use both players.

For people who are curious about what boxes are getting the update:

My Roku LT and old model 3 are both on 7.2 as of right now, maybe earlier, I just thought to check. But my TCL TV is still on 7.1 and that's our most used one and mounted to the living room wall.

I don't mind a little longer of a wait for the TV though (as long as it still will get it) because it's one thing having one of the set top boxes brick and a different bricking a whole TV.

Mine finally updated yesterday. It did not do it automatically but each time i checked the version, i would also automatically hit check for update. When i did that it started the update.

Updated manually today. PlayStation Vue works quite well.

My Roku 4 got the the 7.2 build 4100 update on July 13. Nothing to report so far, wakes up fine, goes to sleep fine.

TCL RokuTV got it today.
As for the Roku 3 that's hooked up to the RokuTV, no dice.

What I notice so far is an option for all black no-signal screensaver (Power Saver) on the RokuTV and additional Power options which will hopefully make it onto the Roku 3 unit.

Yes, the TV's processor is slow. Yes, infrared remotes are outdated. Nuff said.

Both "powers" (SS and menu under System) are RokuTV-only and present since before 7.2

Don't think Roku boxes have standby circuitry, spare for Roku 4. And btw, it's the use of IR remote that allows RokuTV to turn itself "completely" off instead of idling to listen on wifi.

Whether they can completely cut the video signal is sort of a moot point. Why not simply offer an all-black screensaver and allow the TV to make a *Smart* decision?
It's not as though a black & white screen with a rather static Roku logo showcases the best of the platform. And if they're adamant about the free advertising, then limiting it to 15-30 minutes would be great on my energy bill.

My TCL TV 48FS3750 just updated to 7.2 so it looks like it's starting to roll out to TV's

Edit: as far as autoplay goes I love it. Except when it pops up "are you still watching?" and then it won't play anything then I have to go to the remote again to restart it. I have no bandwith caps - so not an issue for me.
