Roku Ultra operating temps

Fri Oct 14, 2016 6:18 pm

I had my Roku Ultra inside the cabinet with the rest of my equipment and when I went into the secret menu I saw it was idling at about 82C which seems very hot. The box itself actually just feels slightly warm, much cooler than my Roku 3 felt.
I placed it on top of the cabinet now out in the open and it is still idling at about 80C.

Is this normal operating temp? What are some temps others are seeing?

In case someone doesn't know how to get to the secret screen...

Press the home button 5 times
press the fast forward button once
press the pause button once
press the rewind button one
press the pause button once
press the fast forward button once.

After watching some 4k for a bit, the highest I've seen the temp get is 90C

That is normal operating temp of the chip.  If the case is only warm, nothing to worry :)

Idling hot enough to take a fingerprint off (depending on the fingerprint I guess) is normal?

What's the temp under load? Is there a way to load it?

My CPU idles at ambient box temp - let's call it 90F/32C. Under load if it runs to 180F/82C I'm in a panic attack with air cans and dust bunny removal tools - even though I know it's within operating temps. Under load my CPU run normally in the 165F/73C neighborhood and when it goes up 10 to 15 degrees I know it's time for maintenance.

80C indicates it's time for maintenance.... and there's no way to maintain it. Smells fishy to me. Blackended Redfish to be exact.

Can't see the temp under load because I have to go out to the homescreen to get to the secret screen. Like I posted though, right after watching some 4k I have seen it be 90C.

Even then though, the box is still just a little warm to the touch, not hot.

Anyone brave enough to check their temps yet in the secret menu? Just wondering if mine is running hotter than most or about the same.
