Help with AV server...music not all in one 'folder'

Sun May 18, 2008 11:00 pm

I use Winamp to play music and I have not previously used any type of 'library' to organize my music. I have upwards of 20,000 files, organized in about a thousands of folders of [Artist - Album, (misc info)]. These folders are spread over 2 different drives and about 5 master 'folders'.

I am finding ALL the media server softwares seem to look for a single music folder, as if I had 500 mp3s all in one folder...

What media server would anyone recommend that can be used to include all my music without placing it into a single directory (can't do that due to drive space anyways..)

thanks much!

Firefly allows you to specify multiple paths to scan for music.

Checkout http://www.fireflymediaserver.org/
SB M1000, M2000 x 2
NSLU2 Unslung 6.8, Firefly 1696, FirePlay 0.85, FF-Stats 1.28

Well, How can I do that? I have looked at a FAQ and explored in the configuration of firefly as best I can and do not see an option for it - do I simply do my drives one at a time and it will make a comprehensive catalog of my music?

Sorry, I'm pretty computer literate but I just don't see the option or information about how to do that..

Thanks a ton for any help.

Matt

click on the firefly icon in the tray and open web administration. select configuration. You will see a link to add music folder. add the path to the additional folder. repeat as necessary. not sure if there is a limit. I also set my rescan interval to a fairly high limit - I have 43200 - every 12 hours (as I don't want the PC continually scanning). You can always force a quick rescan if you want to.

WORKING GREAT.. loving the SB more and more now. Just need to organize my music more and develop some playlists. Finally an impetus to clean up the 2500+ folders I have that are all over the place.

I think you said you had 5 master folders. You *are* entering these into the search path, and not the 2500 individual ones?? Just checking!!!!

Mr rusty,

yes, just using masters. My collection was such a mess of duplicate albums with differing bitrates/file names, etc, buying the SB and setting up the server was its own blessing (like a virus a few months ago that lead to a system format for the first time in a few years..)

I've gone through and done the proverbial mp3 weeding and neatening that was long overdue-and am loving the roku!

thanks
