SMB Shares in OS X

Thu Dec 14, 2006 9:57 pm

Hi all,

I have a question on setting up SMB shares in OS X. How do you set up sharing a directory other than your user directory? I can easily set up Samba sharing and have it work just fine, but the only thing I can share in OS X is my own user directory.

I want to be able to put my media for the HD1000 on another hard drive. Putting media on another hard drive makes it inaccessible over Samba as those directories are no longer part of your use folder.

Is there any "easy" way to do this? I'm sure I could delve into all the wonderful Unix command lines, but I'd really rather not do so.

Thanks,

Jon

Use a program called SharePoints; it's basically a GUI for editing the /etc/smb.conf file. It works great, and you can share folders (or other drives) rather than your home directory just by clicking a few buttons.
