Sharing a folder in Vista?

Sat Sep 08, 2007 8:49 am

Recently got a new PC with Vista. I tried sharing a folder and at first the Roku saw it no problem, but the next day it didn't "recognize any media files" in that share. I rebooted and all was well until later in the day when it got lost again.

Throughout this, the shares on my other PC with XP have been working fine on the Roku so it's just this one folder on my Vista PC. Am I missing something?

Linux? <ahem>

I figure I won't bother with Vista until at LEAST Service Pack 2, so sorry can't help. Heck, I stayed on Win2k until XP SP2, so I've established a pattern of sorts.

Anyone get anywhere with this? I am trying to share a vista box on a HD1000 with no joy... I can see WMC on the Vista box, but I can't see any shared folders, not even the defult "Public" one...
Roku3 and Roku HD1000 [Rev B] on a Samsung HLP5674W DLP in the living room; a Roku2 and two Roku XS and a few SoundBridges.Win7; Kubuntu and XP via RT-N66U, E2000 and a switch or two. I own stock in Roku, it's just all in the form of hardware.Viva la Roku

So, I broke what I said. I built a new PC (Gigabyte P35 mobo, Core-2 Duo 6750, 8600GT, 2GB PC1066 RAM) and put Vista Ultimate on it. Ran it for 30 days until it started nagging me to register it. I guess I COULD have gona ahead and done so and just kept plugging away with it, but this machine just didn't feel as snappy as the hardware specs would suggest it should be. So...I downgraded it to XP SP2 and wow the performance I expected from this machine was really being hidden by Vista.

Man, I should have (and intended to) tried during my above mentioned foray into Vista, but flower if it didn't slip my mind to do so. Sorry.
